Sleep When The Birds Stop Singing
How To Be Healthier By Just Simply Sleeping Better
We are not supposed to be exposed to light 16 + hours a day. Take a look outside the natural world. When the sun goes down, it is dark and the animals and insects rejuvinate by going to sleep.
People in the United States used to sleep an average of 10 hours a night before we could control the light. Now we have the time to only sleep 7 hours. So, you may be wondering what is so wrong with that?
Many biological processes must take place in the body after 11 o'clock in the night. If you are not asleep for these processes to occur they do not happen or do so poorly. This can lead to many diseases, including heart disease, type II diabetes, depression and obesity and high cholesterol.
Your body registers, this huge increase in light created by electricity (either light bulbs, television, computer screens, etc) as a longer day. To your brain longer days means summertime. So, your brain think it needs to eat more carbohydrates to start preparing for winter. After all, it will soon be cold and the food will be scarce. No fresh vegetables, fruits, grains, and so on.
So each morning you awaken and are ravished for carbs. I know. I went through this cycle for years. Fortunately for me I am a fitness buff and would exercise extra to combat all carbs I ate. But if you look around this country today, you will see that most people do not exercise and they keep eating carbs all day and all. Why? Because their brain thinks it forever summer!
So, if something is the cause of obesity and the health epidemic in this country it is excessive use of light. Remember the adage: too much of a good thing is not good! The light and electricity are wonderful modern inventions and when used properly are great. But like everything else, when they are used beyond that, they are more dangerous than good.
A great book on this subject entitled "Lights Out". If you want to be in better health start your sleep preparation after dinner by relaxing and be in bed before 10pm. You can do this if you stop surfing on the computer all night and turn off the television.
To be total refreshed and to stop being tired go to sleep when the birds stop singing.
