Every animal makes some kind of noise.

Cows moo, cats meow, birds chirp, and ducks quack.

I've been told I make weird noises when I wake up in the mourning. I guess that makes me an animal too.

The point is that just about every living creature makes some sort of sounds. In the case of dogs they will bark, sigh, growl, howl, whine, and bark. By itself none of these things are bad. These are normal sounds that your dog makes.

When barking becomes a problem is when is starts to effect other people.

Can the old lady across the street get a good night sleep because your dog is barking?

Can the guy who lives next store sleep in the day while your dog is barking? (He works the night shift you know.)

As you can see it becomes very frustrating when the owner doesn't do it's job in making sure it's dog is happy. That really is what this boils down to. It's almost always your fault that your dog is doing the barking.

Why Is Your Dog Barking?

Most people want to stop their dog from barking, but they don't take into consideration why it is barking. If you can find out why your dog is barking then it makes it much easier to come up with a solution.

Sometimes the reason might even surprise you.

For example, your dog might not like men with beards. When your next door neighbor comes outside every afternoon your dog starts barking. The barking gets even worse because this bearded neighbor starts to shout at your dog and tease your dog. You don't have a clue any of this is going on because your at work.

This would explain why your neighbors are complaining about your dog barking every afternoon.

That's the first step. Observe your dog to find out why it is barking.

Train Dog

Once you know why your dog is barking you can go about training it or finding a solution. For the example above you could simply leave your dog inside or move it somewhere else. (Another option would be to shave off your neighbors beard while he is sleeping. That's probably not an option for most people though.)

If you figure your dog isn't getting enough exercise you could look into getting someone to walk your dog more often.

If your dog is lonely you could get another dog.

This is the most simple way to stop your dog from barking. It will take some trial and error to get it just right. Do remember that it is just a start.
