How To Survive University
Ranked #33,463 in Education, #593,295 overall
The good, the bad, and the ugly of university/college and how to get through it.
High school and University are seen in a lot of peoples lives as the "most fun times". Once people actually reach these points they may not even know it at the time, but this is the last of their youth before growing up is forced to happen! University can be a very busy, very fun, very stressful time in a lot of peoples lives, here are somethings to help you through it.
Partying
Going out downtown
When you are partying there are a lot of things you have to consider. Things like: who you are going out with, where you are going, why you are going, and most importantly how you are getting home. When going out especially downtown, make sure you have multiple people to go with. The more the merrier. Once downtown you are almost guaranteed to get split up. Figure out where you are going so once you start the pre drink you will be able to tell the taxi driver where you are going and not spend 10 minutes deciding as he drives you around cluelessly and runs the meter. Most people go downtown to dance, to have fun and to drink. Sometimes its someones birthday, sometimes its just to go out. Wether the reason is picking up girls or attending a birthday make sure everyone knows why you are down there. The last thing is KNOW HOW YOU ARE GETTING HOME. When you are downtown, the worst thing in the world is being drunk, having no money due to shots and not having a way home. House parties
Do's and Don'ts
When you go to a house party usually the person having the party already expects their house to take some sort of damage. Not saying you should induce damage into their home. Just stating that if you have a house party you are expecting at least one thing broke, one person to throw up, and maybe, hopefully not, but one fight to break out (/drama for girls). If you are going to a house party, try to make sure you know who the house owner is. Nothing is worst then showing up at a house party and not knowing anyone. Everyone gives you the "you're not from around here" look and its just takes a while for you to actually have fun and loosen up at the party...unless of course you are already hammered, then all bets are off. Rule of thumb at house parties is simple: know where your friends are, know where anything you brought is left, and don't touch ANYTHING that isn't yours or looks breakable. That way you can avoid any of the previous things stated that happen at house parties. Girls
Thats right..girls.
University and girls. I have a 10,000 character limit and I think that is about 1000 times less then what I need to fully explain this complicated topic with you. Best piece of advice I can give is: know what you want. Meaning, if you want to focus on school then focus on school. If you want a gf, then get a girlfriend. If you want to just hook up, then just hook up. The worst thing you can do is not know what you want and wasting time thinking about it. Like I said, this is the most fun time of your life! You want to spend all of it having fun, not stressing and deciding over wether or not Susan likes you or not.... because she doesn't ! She has 5 other guys texting her and hanging out with her, and no one says you can't do the same thing! (with other girls of course not guys...unless you're into that then...no comment) Just have fun. School work
It sucks.
School work is probably the worst thing in the entire world. It gets in the way of work, friends, partying, and video games. Best rule of thumb is get it done early, so you don't have to worry about it after. If you have any free time or time to do it right away do it. Everyone in the world knows if you don't do it when you get the change you will just procrastinate until the very last minute and either do it crappily or not at all. Studying
You have to do it
Whether you are review, making new notes or just reading, make sure you have some time in your week to do this. You can do a lot of it all at once or spread it out over a week. Obviously the best choice being spreading it out as much as you can. Exams/Midterms
Make or break your changes at a degree
Exams/Midterms are the biggest part of your University/College life. They are what get you your marks! If you have one on thursday...you should not start studying wednesday night. It does not matter HOW EASY you THINK it is. It is not a good idea and instead of studying and learning you are just memorizing and it will come back and bite you in the but when you have to study for that classes final because you never really studied for the first test. One thing you can use is a progressive studying technique that I like to try. If i have a test on Thursday my breakdown is like this: Monday (read over your notes, get familiar with the topics and learn a few things), Tuesday (study the majority of the topic you are studying, know at least 50% of it very good) Wednesday (learn what ever you didn't learn and review, get a good nights sleep). by oozeera
University student with a little too much free time on my hands. Sports, partying, and having fun is what I do. School work is what I hate.
