How to Throw a Martini Party

Ranked #3,117 in Holidays & Celebrations, #38,534 overall

A Martini Party

A Martini Party is all about sophistication. The martini being the ultimate cocktail that means that a Martini Party must be the ultimate cocktail event! If your friends enjoy martinis and you want to impress them then why not host this special event, you won't regret it.

Dress Code for the Martini Party is always formal, sometimes Martini Parties are themed. The most common Martini Party theme that I see is James Bond, but think outside of the box and try 1930s Hollywood for example or a Prohibition Speakeasy.

Martini Party Décor

Cocktail Party Chic!

Martini Glass Cutout

Blue Martini Glass Cutout

Your décor will depend on whether or not you have a theme. I love these martini glass cutouts and they will look good whether your Martini Party has a theme or not.

These Martini glasses come in green or blue, complete with olive and stand at 5' tall and make a real talking point at any party.

The classic Martini party theme is James Bond which means that the men get to rent a tux and the ladies can decide which James Bond character they want to be. Casino games can be added to the entertainment if you want to make it a Casino Royale night.

If you decide on a movie or Hollywood themed party you can get everyone to dress as their favorite black and white movie star! Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire etc.

The prohibition is another theme that you can use, play jazz music and get people to dress up 30s style or even 30s gangsters - what fun.

The Martini

Classic Martini

6 parts gin
1/4 tsp dry vermouth
cocktail olive

Combine the gin and vermouth in a mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with an olive and serve.

Vodka Martini

2 parts vodka
1 part vermouth

Combine in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake, strain into a martini glass and garnish with an olive.
The classic Martini is a very strong drink, so if your friends aren't usually Martini drinkers than may I suggest some berry martinis or even chocolate martinis.

Most people will want their martini shaken, but make sure you have a couple of mixing glasses for the few that asked for a stirred martini. You'll obviously need a few cocktail shakers on hand, at least two per number of people tending bar. The last thing you need at your Martini Party is people going thirsty!

Martini Party Food

Parmesan Crisps
Parmesan Crisps are really easy to make and are perfect finger food for your Martini Party.
Smoked Salmon Canapes
What can be more sophisticated than smoked salmon canapes to accompany your martini?
Oysters in Carbonara
Oysters are certainly popular at parties that I've attended, although I'm not partial to them myself....
Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto
Asparagus and prosciutto are a fantastic compliament to each other and this stunning hor d-oevre is also easy to make.
Salmon Blinis
Blinis with salmon and mascarpone make great finger food, especially if you decide to serve vodka martinis...
Blue Cheese and Roasted Tomato Tarts
Blue cheese and tomato is a traditional combination that makes for great finger food.
Corn Fritters with Smoked Trout
If you want an appetiser that doesn't appear at everyone else's party then this delicious fritter may be just what you need.
Cucumber Cups with Thai Beef Salad
Cucumber cups are sooooo cute and they actually really suit the flavor of the Thai beef salad, let's face it what could be more British than cucumber cups? I can hear everyone saying, "Bond, James Bond..."

Martini Risotto Vol au Vents

Another idea for food came to me while watching an episode of Jamie Oliver. He made a risotto using vermouth (one of the ingredients in martinis) which I thought sounded fantastic.

Jamie Oliver's Vermouth Risotto

Make up some of the risotto (personally I think the mushroom version is the nicest) and place inside some mini vol au vents for a Martini flavored appetizer.

All cocktail parties are great fun, but for glamor and sophistication you can't go past a Martini party.
