How to Throw a Successful Themed Party

All themed parties are going to start with some basic steps you are going to want to follow to make your party an overwhelming success.

1) Come up with your theme. We have a HUGE list below that may help you pick the theme for your party

2) Create your lists... yes lists! Food to buy list, themed items list (napkins, plates, decorations, etc.), preparation list (what is your time frame for everything from planning to cooking), by making lists you will be sure to be organized and ready when it comes to the big party!

3) Create one more list - Your guest list Think about those people you want to invite and if they would be willing to get in to the occasion and really dress up. Have small items that go with your theme for those who choose not to dress up, like: Mardi Gras beads for the non dresser or maybe a hat that goes with your theme for the shy party goer.

4) Create your own invitations or purchase already made themed invitations

5) Create a budget. It is very easy to get carried away with creating the perfect themed party for your loved ones.

6) Gather themed materials you will using for your party. We have found many items you may want to use and will provide links for you later.

7) Pay attention to details check your lists, and check your lists again.

8) Keep the party flowing smoothly. You are in charge of keeping the kids busy, or making sure the adults are mingling. It is your job to hold the party together and make it a success. Hosting a party is a balancing act and you are the one they all expect to make it balance from start to finish.

9) Have a back up plan! If you are planning an outdoor party, what will you do if it rains? Plan for all worst case scenarios.

10) After the party. Did you plan for clean up? Will your guest help you? Should you hire someone to come in and clean up for you? Have plenty of large garbage bags on hand. Have a plan.

Baby's First Birthday celebration

In America, birthdays are something to celebrate. There are numerous hours that is spent on just planning and taking action to throw these parties that will just last only a few hours.

When it comes to having a child, it's such a joyous moment. When they turn one, it is only right to celebrate it with a big family party and often you'll invite anyone and everyone.

It is nice to throw a big first birthday because you are able to celebrate the growth of both mom and baby over the past year. All those people who watched mom grow and give birth, then see how the baby grows throughout the first year now have a reason to get together to celebrate again.

Keep in mind that the child will not remember who came to the party or what they got, but you'll find that it's something more for mom and dad.

One important thing that the birthday boy or girl does get to do is celebrate with their own piece of cake, or even their own small cake.

The best part of a first birthday party is when you give a child a piece of the cake or you give them their own cake and you watch the child go head first into their first birthday cake. It is understood that they will make a mess and pictures will be taken. But that is all part of the fun.

Like with all birthdays, gifts are given to the birthday child. Mostly toys and clothes since they spend their first few years outgrowing everything they have.

One of the very best parts of any birthday is the choosing of birthday cakes. There are hundreds of different designs, and even more possibilities for pre-made cakes that you can choose. Even those that don't care for cake will have one at their celebration for those that do. Even when we get older and less enthusiastic about blowing out the candles we love to have a cake. There is something special about having a birthday cake made just for us, and that usually only happens once a year.

The only other time when cakes might be more important than birthday cakes is when you are planning your wedding and you want to have the most spectacular cake of your life. Just because we often think the wedding cake is the ultimate, that doesn't mean you have to settle when you choose one for your birthday if you don't want to. Though most birthday cakes are small and flat, you can get something much like a wedding cake when you have a special number coming up, or you know you are having a large gathering.

You can also have any type of cake for your birthday cake that you want. You don't have to settle for chocolate or white if you don't want to, as there are many types of cake that work well for any occasion. If you love coconut, go ahead and have one that is made with just that. If you want a jelly filling, you can have that as well. Though the decoration on the outside is the first that people see and what seems impressive, the cake inside is what counts. Get what you want for your special day.

When you want the very best for your birthday cakes, you should skip the grocery store and head out to your local bakery. If you can't find what you want there, you can always look online for someone who can deliver, or who may have the supplies that you need to make your own birthday cakes. You may have never tried to make a great cake before, but you may love doing it. You may even find that you are very good at it, and you want to keep making them for others in your family as well. It doesn't really matter where you get your cake, or who makes it, as long as it reflects who you are what your special day means to you.

Duck Duck Goose

Whatever the theme, simply substitute words from the theme for "duck" and "goose." For example, use "princess, princess, FROG, for a Princess and the Frog themed party. As long as you explain the new words to the children, any words you select will work just fine.

Hot Potato

You can use virtually any item for the "potato" for this old favorite. If your child has chosen a character party, and has a stuffed or plastic toy of the character, use it. For a sports theme, use a ball or other item from the sport. Even a story book about the theme would work well. Use music from the theme topic for an added bonus.

Simon Says

One person is chosen to be "Simon" the others stand in a straight line. The Simon then calls out an action for the children to follow. It can be anything like.... touch your nose, hop on one foot, turn around twice......& etc. If Simon when giving an action simply states the action by itself...such as "touch your nose" then anyone who does the action is out and has to sit down. If the action is stated as: "Simon says, touch your nose" then everyone must follow the instruction. You can vary the actions according to the age group of children who are playing. The last person who is standing can then be "Simon"!

For a themed party, you can change from "Simon" to "Buzz Lightyear Says" or any other fictional character from your themed party.

Telephone

Everyone sits in a circle. The first person whispers a message to the person next to them in the circle. Each person in turn tries to repeat the same message to the person next to them. The last person in the circle repeats the message out loud. Unfortunately, by the time it gets to the end of the circle the message has changed completely. Then the person who started the message tells everyone what the actual message originally was.

For a themed party, have them start a message about the theme itself (you might have to help the younger ones come up with a message.)

Your Favorite characters can come to life with a full size cut out. Kids love having their favorite characters coming to their birthday parties.

Adults also love having their picture taken with their favorite movie star. Everyone will be talking about your party as a huge success for having these special guest visit your party!
