How to Throw Harder in Baseball to be the Best Pitcher on Your Team

On the first day of baseball tryouts, my freshman year, I was eager to make the squad as a pitcher. When I arrived, however, I was completely overwhelmed when I saw the 50-or-so pitchers warming up. The high school coach, radar gun in hand, called us over one by one to throw a 15 pitch bullpen.

I threw my 15 pitches and, before I was even off the mound, the coach told me that I didn't throw hard enough to make the team. He said if I didn't gain 10 MPH I would never make the team but he encouraged me to try again next year. I was devastated.

Don't make the same mistake I did. I waited until my JUNIOR year before I learned how to throw harder in baseball.

Not to generalize, but I'm sure you've taken pitching lessons before with the intent to become a better pitcher. There's nothing wrong with that, however, the number one thing scouts look for in a pitcher is how hard he throws.

I'm sure you've also heard, from these same coaches, that velocity can't be taught. I once believed that too, after I had the same pitching coach for three years with little to no gains in how hard I threw a baseball.

If these pitching coaches are so great then why do they tell you that velocity can't be taught. I certainly learned how to throw harder in baseball and it wasn't as hard as most coaches make it out to be!

On my quest to learn how to throw harder, I came across weighted baseballs. They were supposedly able to increase my velocity 5 - 10 MPH based on a "secret" training technique.

I spent 8 months practicing using weighted baseballs. After school I would spend at least 45 minutes a day following their procedure perfectly.

After 8 months of dedicated, hard work, guess how much harder I threw?

2MPH!!! That's right 2 MPH. I spent 8 months and only gained 2MPH.
