How To Transfer Domain Names - Free
To obtain the best price on domain names and web hosting some people use two different service providers. Two examples that come to mind are GoDaddy who have dirt cheap domain registration and HostGator who have excellent web hosting for terrific prices. But how do you use the two to get the best of both worlds without incurring the cost of domain name transfers. The answer is to simply change the nameserver so your domain name on your domain name provider goes to your web hosting provider. It's not really a transfer but you really only need to do that when your changing ownership and this way it's free.
How To on Transferring Domain Names
DNS simply means Domain Name Server. Domain Name Servers are basically large directories that tell a web browser where to go to get the data for any given web page. Most Domain Name hosts also provide web page hosting but what if they don't have a plan that suits you. Well, then you can actually host your web page on another providers service and point the domain to the web page host. It's actually a very simple process.
Teach Yourself Web Page Design
With a bit of determination and time you can teach yourself how to design your own web pages. It's not that hard once you know how and you can make it as simple or as complex as you like.
Step By Step On Transferring Domain Names
When you sign up to a hosting company you will be given what is called a name server address. You will be given at least two domain name servers. This is because if one server goes down the other will take over allowing your website to still be accessible while the other server has maintenance performed on it or is repaired.
Here's how to do it
Go to your domain name service provider and login to your account. Find the menu that allows you to manage your domains. In my case I'm using GoDaddy so it's in Domains - My Domains. This process should be very similar on other providers sites.

Click on the checkbox of the domain name that you want to host elsewhere. Up above the domain names should be a row of icons. Click on Nameservers and a new window should
pop up over your browser window.
When you signed up for a hosting account you should have been given some nameserver addresses sent to your email. Copy these into Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2 and your
done.
Now we need to go to our hosting provider and log into the Cpanel. Find the section labeled domain and click Addon Domains. Type in the name of the domain, a username, where you want the root document folder and a password and then click Add Domain and your done.
You may need to wait 24 hours before all the information has been transferred and your able to use the web hosting services.

- A Domain name transfer is the process of changing the designated registrar of a domain name. TLD and Hosting are two different things.

- I never transferred domain names becuase there are charges for it and unless you have to, becuase you are closing a webhosting account and opening a new one, otherwise it is easier to pay few $$ more and buy from your webhosting provider. But I may try in the future and see. Also Whois.com sells domain names for a good price.

- I liked this lens very much because it seems you are talking about my websites! I use Godaddy as the domain registrar and hostgator to host these sites. I already know how to transfer domain names, but it is very well explained in this lens, anyone can do it following your advice.
