How to Travel with Dogs
I now have 3 dogs! Molly the Douge DE Bordeaux and her partner in crime is Roxy the Bull Mastiff. and now we have cute little Belle the Bulldog too!
The mastiff is a great traveler however the Dogue is very excitable and anxious and gets easily stressed, and little Belle just goes with the flow!
I take the dogs on holiday, meaning I have had to work hard at training them so we can safely drive to our destination. Pittenweem in Fife. Quite a few miles from where we stay. This is a humorous take on how we do indeed take our pets on holiday with us,

Successful travel with dogs
....needs organisation!
Usually the morning of departure you are running around, the dogs are all excited so it is so easy to forget the small things like the leads! Start packing your beddings food, bowls, water bottles the night before...I found these are the things you end up driving off without, as you are in that much of a hurry to get going.
Traveling with your dog - before you set off
First a long walk...

Due to the Doug DE Bordeaux being so anxious, in the beginning we have had to do several smaller journeys, like taking her to the park in the car, which is less than 5 minutes away, so that she began to see there was a great reward at the end of the journey
About an hour before we are ready to set off on our journey we take the dogs for a walk around the park, and let them run off some extra steam and let them take care of business. Our total traveling time is around 2 hours.
Taking your Dog on Holiday
should be fun, not stressful
and why should all the fun of a holiday ice creams and all be reserved only for the humans in the family! There is nothing better than playing with the other part of your family along the waters front!
Pet travel really is a walk in the park
As Roxy cannot be walked far, (~she did indeed jump off a cliff after a seagul!) molly still needs to be walked, and she loves being taken down to the village where she proudly sits watching everyone go by, the great thing about getting your dogs on holiday, is getting out walking and seeing the countryside, probably without the dogs we would not walk along the beautiful coastline. Traveling with pets
but still keep to their routines

....oops, wrong picture. thats Nana, Gran, Rebecca and Uncle Tommy.
Here we are...

Roxy is a bit of a messy eater so she eats hers outside! She also is on a special diet since she hurt herself, and mum likes to make sure she eats all of her dinner up to help build her strength up. she also gets extra vitamins in her dinner, to help maintain her bones.

Its' the sea air

A sign that everything is fine is happy content and very tired dogs! mind you Roxy is determined to get every last bit of meat off that smelly bone, just look at the mess of her nice clean bed.
Ahh....peace...we all settle down to watch the TV.
This is definitely the best bit, as we are all snuggled up for the night! So our Adventure to Pittenweem has been great and I am glad we take out dogs on holiday as it is great fun, and if done correctly not stressful at all!

Driving test Next Perhaps?
Molly and Roxy are seasoned travelers now, however it was not all plain sailing, it has taken a lot of training, effort, understanding to be able to go long journeys, secure in the knowledge that the dogs are comfortable and safe.I was beginning to give up hope that I could take the two of them with me, at the same time, but I persevered, as the thought of putting them into kennels was even worse.
Our perseverance paid off. And we all enjoy our holidays now.

is your dog too excitable in the car
Because molly is so exciteable, she has to take special Calming Tablets This has helped calm mollies stomach down and now she can enjoy traveling, also we find the more we do it the easier it is, whereas before she would be really sick, and not feel very well. They must be given to her in the morning so they can start to work properly. They are easy to squash and then rollsit up in a nice slice of ham!
I would suggest you read this book on medicines for your dog, as not all medicines agreed with me in the beginning. I had tried a lot before finding the ones I use now. The Pill Book Guide to Medication for Your Dog and Cat
Molly was so anxious she was pretty dangerous in a car, jumping all over the place, so we had to use a dog seat belt (yes you read right!) It was kind of like a harness and did not allow Molly to jump around, but now she is a good girl at traveling and does not need it now.
