So How Can I Treat My Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is commonly believed to be the most unpleasant part of being pregnant.  Is there any hope in finding good advice on how to treat morning sickness?  I mean, its uncomfortable, unpredictable and just plain yucky!  For some women, it's controllable and short lived while for others it can be quite severe and last for the entire pregnancy =(

Fortunately, there are things you can do to treat if not completely cure your morning sickness!  I would suggest trying all of these techniques until you find something that works for you.  We're all different and each pregnancy is different too so what worked for you the first time may not work now.  Stick with it and I'm confident that you'll find something that works!  Trust me the peace of mind and body that follows is worth the effort =)

Treat Your Morning Sickness

A Great Relaxation Technique

Okay, so usually all the advice about how to treat morning sickness focuses on what you should/shouldn't eat and drink. That's really important and all (check out my other lens for info on that) but I'm amazed at how often relaxation/breathing techniques are overlooked! These helped me tremendously during my pregnancies and I'm positive they can help you too.

Start by ripping the phone chord out of the wall and dropping your cellphone in the toilet. You're going to need peace and quiet if you plan on getting the most out of this exercise =) If you have other children then try to explain that Mommy needs quiet time (yeah right!) and if that doesn't work then just wait til they're down for nap time. Next, sit in a relaxed position with your legs crossed and breath deeply. Make sure that your breaths are long on the way in as well as on the way out. Don't strain your lungs and if you're doing these exercises with a friend then don't feel you have to breath in/out at the same pace. This isn't a competition! Just find a rate that works for you =) Let your mind go and allow your body to relax. With a little practice, a relaxed state will come quicker and last longer. You can do this exercise a few times a day for up to 20 minutes

Drown Your Morning Sickness!

Stay Hydrated

Yes, another often overlooked way on how to treat morning sickness is staying hydrated! The reason is because its difficult. Drinking too many fluids at once can increase morning sickness symptoms while at the same time drinking too few can increase them as well. AHH! Its a fine line you have to walk if you're going to stay hydrated while a the same time not going overboard.

The trick is to take small drinks frequently thoughtout the day. Do not drink more than 2oz of fluids at a time otherwise you may bring on morning sickness symptoms. Keep the sips small. Basically, don't go an hour without fluids and then down a 8 oz glass of water trying to catch up! Keep a bottle of water with you throughout the day and take frequent sips. Remeber, water is important for the baby's growth and also a way on how to treat morning sickness.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

I know, I know - none of us LIKE maternity clothes. But the truth is staying comfortable is a big way on how to treat morning sickness. That means wearing clothes that fit and don't restrict your body in any way. You can find some really cute and stylish outfits at local retailers and online shops. And no, you don't have to break the bank either =) Don't worry about whether or not your husband or boyfriend thinks you're cute. First of all, he almost 100% does and second, if he's that concerned then tell him to squeeze into his old high school jeans after Thanksgiving dinner LOL!
