How to Uninstall McAfee from Your System

Depending on the version of your McAfee program, firewalls may be causing problems for your uninstall. If you would like to permanently remove all the files on your computer that is related to the McAfee software you should follow these steps.

1. When you first installed McAfee on your computer, the main program file would have been installed in the Programs folder on your hard drive. Begin by going to C:\Program Files\mcafee.com\agent\app. In order to go to this link, you will need to open any one of your main folders, such as My Computer or My Documents. If nothing loads on-screen when you go to the link we provided, you should run a search from your start menu for the term, "McAfee".
2. Once you are in the folder, begin by deleting all the files in the folder. Just a note: It is crucial that you delete all the files, so that uninstall McAfee would be successful.
3. From your Start menu, open Control Panel and select Add/Remove programs. The wizard will now open and show you a list of the programs that are installed on your computer. In this list, look for the McAfee product that you are uninstalling.
4. Once you find the McAfee product, select it and choose Remove. The setup wizard will open and the process will start. Once the program is done, you will get a notification to reboot your computer. After the reboot, the computer will run a mini scan to ensure everything is in order.
