How To Use Hot Iron Transfers For Fabric Painting

Let's Do Some More Painting!

As you can see, painting is one of my favorite leisure activities! Kids love to decorate their own accessories almost as much as I do, and hot iron transfers make it easy to prepare a project for painting.

Simply iron on the design, and you're ready to paint! The only trick is to make certain that you have chosen fabrics that can tolerate the high heat that is necessary to transfer the design.

Join me for a quick tutorial to see just how easy it is to use a hot iron transfer. The only hard part is choosing which design you will want to use on your accessories!

Textile Medium & Fabric Brushes

Fabric Brushes Are Stiffer Than Regular Paintbrushes So You Can Press The Paint Into The Fabric

Textile Medium

Plaid Delta 8-Ounce Textile Medium Acrylic Paint Ceramcoat

Amazon Price: $6.35 (as of 06/01/2012)Buy Now

Decorative painting on fabric offers endless opportunities for self expression in wearable art. Textile medium keeps your fabric soft and pliable, and also makes your design machine washable.

Wash painted items on delicate, and do not use an iron directly on the painted design.

Fabric Paintbrushes

Fabric brushes are stiffer than normal brushes so you can press the paint into the fibers of your fabric. I highly recommend this set of brushes for your fabric painting projects.

Fun lens! I've seen those transfers but hadn't thought of using regular acrylics with them.

Since I am not an artist, transfers have been my saving grace on many projects. This is an excellent step by step instruction lens. I had to giggle a bit at your paint palette. I have always used paper plates too. Angel Blessed and added to my Squid Angel Mouse Tracks lens.
