How To Use Oracle JInitiator on Windows 7

Ranked #964 in Computers & Electronics, #14,552 overall | Donates to Child Aid

This will be a short one :)

Before this, I used a computer with Windows XP to launch Oracle JInitiator on Internet Explorer 8 (IE8). But when the company gave me a brand new PC with Windows 7 and IE8....I'm stuck all the way that my IE crashed everytime I visit a webpage that use Oracle JInitiator.

So lets begin the journey to solve this problem and it will be a short one :) SERIOUSLY a short one.

YouTube - What is Oracle JInitiator?

Oracle JInitiator provides these benefits:

* It allows the latest Oracle-certified JVM to run in older browser releases.

* It ensures a consistent JVM between different browsers.

* It is a reliable deployment platform. JInitiator has been thoroughly tested and certified for use with Forms Server.

* It is a high-performance deployment environment. Application class files are automatically cached by JInitiator, which provides fast application start-up.

* It is a self-installing, self-maintaining deployment environment. JInitiator automatically installs and updates itself like a plug-in or an Active-X component. Locally cached application class files are automatically updated from the application server.

The Problem:How To Use Oracle JInitiator on Windows 7?

Windows 7 desktop clients are certified only with the native Sun Java Runtime Engine (JRE) with Windows 7. Oracle JInitiator was built on top of Java 1.3. Java 1.3 is desupported by Sun Microsystems and and not compatible with either Windows Vista or Windows 7. We have no plans to certify Oracle JInitiator with Windows 7.

Solutions That I've Already Tried And It Failed Me

1. Finally, I came across a solution(or rather a workaround) -replace the jvm.dll in jinitiator directory with that present in Sun's JRE 1.6. If you don't want to install the whole bundle - just click here(jvm.dll,2.2 MB), I've uploaded just the jvm.dll file, rename theoriginal jvm.dll (present in jinitiator/bin/hotspot directory) to, say jvm.dll.old, and replace it with the one given in the above link. Restart the browser, IE shouldn't crash anymore

2. Open IE 8.
Go to Properties, advance, Security: uncheck Enable memory protection mode to help migititate online attacks

Please let me know, if you are able to uncheck this option without beeing logged on as administrator.

3. Try using Netscape Navigator

4. Other ridiculous solutions

The Solution & IT WORKED
