Tarot

What is it?

A tarot deck contains 78 cards each with a different symbolic feature. 22 of these cards are called the Major Arcana (or trumps) and 14 are made up of 4 suits (similar to playing cards), called the Minor Arcana (or pip cards).
Many believe the Tarot's origins date back to the mid 15th century in Northern Italy, but there are many theories about it originating from Ancient Egypt, Gypsies and even Atlantis.

Tarot is used for divination, problem solving, self improvement, fortune telling, creative visulisation and also used for understanding. Some people collect tarot cards for the beautiful artwork on each card, whilst others get really into the history and research of the cards. Still more people use Tarot cards to play different card games.

Artists interperate the symbols in different ways, hence the numerous different tarot decks available. It all comes down to personal taste. Although the different artists have different interpretations of the symbolic meanings of the cards, all decks mean pretty much the same.

Practice, Practice, Practice.

The old saying still holds.. Practice Makes Perfect

It may take a while for you to fully understand, learn and develop your tarot reading skills. Its not so much the laying out of the cards, its the interpretation of the cards that is the difficult part.

It will take a lot of patience and perserverance, but once you know how, you can apply your readings to just about anything you like.
