Is this all about how to manipulate a mind or how to manipulate people?
Critics of Dale Carnegy say that his book is about manipulation.
Certainly, it's possible to take bad influence on others, but his idea was to show people how to become a valuable memeber of society by helping others and being a nice person to be around. That people are more ready to listen to you when you are kind to them is only natural and you don't need to read or listen to his book to understand that.
Influencing and Manipulating - Is that OK?
Influencing others is something we do consciously and/or unconcoiusly all the time. By our actions and by the way we talk to others we are in constant interaction. If we take some influence on an other person to help them improve their life - and maybe in the process also make our onw life easier - then this is quite OK.
Where is gets cricital, is when we try to influence somebody to their own disadvantage and our own advantage. Such a way of taking influence can not be tolerated!
Is it ethical to influence others?
Yes, it certainly can be, as long as you influence them in a ethically correct way and not just for your onw benefit.

Having read the book, you couldn't possibly say that it has anything to do with manipulation or anything unethical for that matter. His philosophy is all about being others-focused, effecting a real change in yourself at the same time, and creating an honest and sincere relationship based on that focus.

I think the critics of Dale's work haven't read the book or listened to the audio program. Dale's fabulous program 'How to win friends and influence people' is based on years of preparation, research and exhaustive study from actual examples of human behaviour discussed through Dale's classes. I just wish I could have been there! This program is an absolute must for anyone wishing to improve their human relations and is one of my all-time favourite programs.
No, taking influence on others can not be justified!
