How To Win Friends and Influence People

Winning Friends and Having Influence over other people.... Who does not wish to have these 'powers'? Contrary to what you might think, it's a lot easier to be liked by others and to win their friendship, even to influence them in some cases.

Dale Carengy has written a bestseller in the last century that is as up to date today as it was when he first wrote. Human behaviour is still pretty much the same and we function still along the same lines.

Dale Carnegy's book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is also available as downloadable audio book. As it's best to read and re-read some of the passages of his book, an audiobook is the most convenient way to so: Take you MP3 Player along and listen when commuting, waiting or doing other chores that don't really occupy your grey cells much.

Is this all about how to manipulate a mind or how to manipulate people?

Critics of Dale Carnegy say that his book is about manipulation.

Critics of Dale Carnegy say that his book is all about how to manipulate a mind or how to manipulate people. I believe that they are missing the point of Dale Cernegie's book.

Certainly, it's possible to take bad influence on others, but his idea was to show people how to become a valuable memeber of society by helping others and being a nice person to be around. That people are more ready to listen to you when you are kind to them is only natural and you don't need to read or listen to his book to understand that.

Influencing and Manipulating - Is that OK?

Influencing others is something we do consciously and/or unconcoiusly all the time. By our actions and by the way we talk to others we are in constant interaction. If we take some influence on an other person to help them improve their life - and maybe in the process also make our onw life easier - then this is quite OK.

Where is gets cricital, is when we try to influence somebody to their own disadvantage and our own advantage. Such a way of taking influence can not be tolerated!

Is it ethical to influence others?

Yes, it certainly can be, as long as you influence them in a ethically correct way and not just for your onw benefit.

No, taking influence on others can not be justified!

Dale Carnegie Timeline

Dale Breckenridge Carnegie (originally Carnagey until 1922 and possibly somewhat later) (November 24, 1888 ? November 1, 1955) was an American writer and lecturer and the developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking and interpersonal skills. Born in poverty on a farm in Missouri, he was the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People, first published in 1936, a massive bestseller that remains popular today. He also wrote a biography of Abraham Lincoln, titled Lincoln the Unknown, and several other books.

Carnegie was an early proponent of what is now called responsibility assumption, although this only appears minutely in his written work. One of the core ideas in his books is that it is possible to change other people's behavior by changing one's reaction to them.

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful."
