Return to Romance

Here we will elaborate on 10 best ways to woo your lover, (on Valentines Day or any day of the year), the art of romance must be practiced and employed! Valentines Day is not just for the young, its not just for the newly-weds, its not just for the honey-mooners.It's for those of us who long for that "courtship encounter". Those of us-young and less-young alike, who still have a playful side, still need to flirt, still enjoy silliness, sweetness and outright romancing! But this lens is NOT about playing into all the commercialized ploys of Valentine's Day. It's all about finding a way to bring back some meaning to the day. Without spending alot of money. It's all about making the effort, falling in love all over again, and doing it all simply and inexpensively...AND FROM THE HEART!

10 Best Romantic Moves

  1. Play games together
  2. Hold hands, take a walk
  3. Leave a love note
  4. Bake a favorite sweet
  5. Always kiss good night
  6. Laugh and learn something together every day!
  7. Wear sexy underwear
  8. Give a massage
  9. Hug tightly, never take each other for granted
  10. Dream big! Fantasize....wish it

1.Love Games

By "playing a game", I'm not referring to video games or sports exactly! Just to give a simple example: My husband of almost 35 years is not one into "games" at all. But I coaxed him into my Valentines game and he actually smiled, joked and enjoyed it quite a bit. We don't have time for long board games together, but all I requested was 10 mins. after lunch to kick back and "play". My game didn't even involve touching (we get to that later!) but we interacted together and it was relaxing and fun. All we did was have a game of WAR with a regular deck of cards. The time limit was 10 mins. After some play back and forth, I gave us 10 more rounds to the end. Then we each counted our cards-the person with the less number of cards has to draw a card from the Valentine box and perform the task listed on the card. This is where the fun came in! One card drawn per day and if the person re-nigs on the drawn task-you only get 1 re-pick for the entire course of the game, which we are playing from Feb 1st thru Valentines Day.
Now I had made up the task cards ahead of time from scrapbook paper, colored pencils, glue, scalloped scissors, paint, stickers and it took about a half hour, but I had fun doing it because it brought me back to my childhood when I just used whatever I had, whatever I felt like using. You can be as simple, or as fancy as you like. I think when my partner saw how much I had put into this game, he was more than willing to go along with it. The main object being to spark romantic gestures and thoughtful acts that you wouldn't necessarily otherwise do. My task cards read like: Sing a love song, do Sunday dishes, light a candle, etc.

But you can be as creative as your mind will go....Just keep it fun and easy.
Our first day, he took his re-pick already and now I am thinking the better idea would be if you re-nig on your task, your partner gets to create a new one on the spot! I think it would be lovely to write a love poem, of any level of capability because it would take some thought and time. Anyway, all of this game costs little or nothing and it carries over from day to day, creates a light heart and gives us some cheerful togetherness. What could be more romantic than that?

2. The art of hand holding

type=textHolding hands is one of the most intimate actions two people can share. When you search "holding hands" on the internet, many of the images involve children. It is done by mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers out of love, security, sharing and even protection. When two lovers intertwine hands, it adds a depth of emotion to the relationship. There is nothing more endearing, for me, than to see an elderly couple who have clearly shared their life experiences with, still reaching over to hold their partners hands, or walking together while holding hands. It gathers them together as one, yet is innocent and sweet. Once in awhile, I will reach over in church of all places and hold my husband's hand quietly without notice to anyone-it still connects me to another and feels good.

3. Love Notes

One of the simplest, sweetest things for any relationaship is finding a love note! It can be written on anything from a napkin from a favorite restaurant to a lavishly decorated paper, it can be as short as a wink, or as eloquent as a personal poem, a quote, or a song lyric. It can be tucked in the shower, on the pillow, or scrolled into the travel mug. Whatever note you leave, make it from your heart and it is guarenteed to bring a smile, a sigh or maybe it will patch a disagreement or spark a heart to open. It takes only a moment and it does so much good! Any element of surprise brings back the playfulness to a romance. When was the last time you gave a love note to your lover?

This is a poem I wrote for my next poetry book

Valentine's Touch

Darling,
For Valentine's Day I want
one thing from you...
You know how I adore the way
Hershey's kisses melt in my mouth
so slowly...
Well, I'd trade the whole
package of kisses for little
foil-wrapped moments with you.
Lately, time goes to the highest
bidder.
I want you to just
w-a-i-t with me....
Wait for the tingly touch
of the rain, for it seems
to bring clouds of drenching love.
Touch me only in the places
the rain never has...

Do you remember...

...the twinge of excitement that warmed you through and through the very first time you ever held hands? When was the last time you held hands so sweetly as that?

4.Favorite Sweets

type=textWhat better way to surprise your love, than with delicious sweet treats? I'm not especially talented in the baking dept, but I try my best to create simple and tasty treats. One thing everyone can make is brownies. I've never seen a guy turn down a fresh-bake square of brownie. Here is one of my favorite simple recipes:

Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
4 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 (14 oz.) cans Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk
3 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
HEAT oven to 350°F. Spray a 13 x 9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
COMBINE graham cracker crumbs, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butter and vanilla in large bowl. Mix until blended. Spread evenly in prepared pan.
BAKE 25 to 30 minutes. Cool. Cut into bars.

Or if you don't have time to bake, I recommend the vanilla butter mini-hearts cookies from ETSY(below) 5 dozen for $20 !!!

5. Always Kiss Me Good Night

Those words say it all! It's much like the old adage that I think my Grandma used to say "don't ever go to bed mad at each other". Number one rule-I don't care how tired you are, how many drinks you've had, what great problem is on your mind-you kiss me good night like you mean it! You kiss me good night like you may never have a chance to kiss me again. Outside of that rule, you can do about anything....and I'll still hold you very dear!

This is a sonnet I wrote:

Always Kiss Me Goodnight

If under invisible silver stars
Or transported to the planet of Mars
Whether tucked into blankets of warm fleece
Just always kiss me goodnight, if you please

When your travels should bring you faraway
The thoughts I keep in my head never stray
For wet rosebud-love remains spicy red
Visions of naked love dance in my head

Just always promise to kiss me goodnight
Keep me close in your arms til morning light
Incase some anger slipped in through the day
Let my petal-soft kiss soothe it away

If you kiss me with passion ev'ry night
Our radiant love will always feel right

I have these words on my headboard and you can get yours for around $20

always kiss me good night

8. Give a Massage

the new ancient cure-all

type=text

Massage is used for all kinds of problems, such as muscle repair, relaxation, headache relief, depression, detox, but its importance in being a sensual relationship enhancer is where we speak from today. Massage could be called "touching constructively". It is an art that uses the gift of touch with such wide benefits from lowering blood pressure to simply producing a calming, relaxing effect. If you are going to do a sensual massage, you want to make sure you have enough time to share with your partner. You want to have enough space and comfortable surface to begin with. You may or may not want to use massage oils, lotions or cremes, but it makes the contact smoother and easier. You may also want to have pleasing music or sounds while doing massage. The full body massage is not the only type of massage to consider. You might wish to start with a foot massage, scalp massage or shoulder massage. For some, massage is the ultimate pleasure and luxury.
