The Royal Marines are the only part of the British Armed Forces. Marine crops and amphibious infantry of the United Kingdom are called as Royal Marines along with Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal navy from Naval Service. They are specialized in Arctic warfare and mountain warfare. They can quickly deploy and fight in any terrain in the world. They are highly trained, capable of operating independently and they are a core component of the country's Rapid Deployment Force.

Royal Marine is the only basic modern infantry training programmed of any NATO combat troops is recruited by Royal Marines. Royal Marines usually recruit for training. Interested individuals must attend a Potential Royal Marine Course (PRMC) or Potential Officer Course (POC) held at CTCRM. It's a three days training programmed to assess physical ability and intellectual capacity to undertake the recruit training. Through Admiralty Interview Board, all the Officer candidates must take.

Here the duties are on shore and restricted to amphibious warfare. Selected individuals could be landed as guards in a friendly port or to keep seamen from desertion. But in amphibious warfare these marines have their importance. There must be co-operations between the army and the navy which often led to disputes of authority, the marines here are clearly under naval discipline and more hence effective. Following the granting of "Royal" status in 1802 the whole marine uniform was updated. The new uniforms were ' by the King's express command, the pattern of the First regiment of Foot Guards'. The rank and file marine wore two leather pipe clayed cross belts with a plate bearing the Marines badge joining them together.

The recruitment of marines resembled that of the army, as they were essentially landmen they could not be "impressed" like seamen. Posters were printed and stuck up in market places, and recruiting sergeants roamed the area trying to recruit young men with tales of action and adventure. Persuasion was not enough and in wartime a substantial bounty was offered which by 1801 had reached 26 per man. Despite this the rapid expansion of the navy caused a crisis as recruitment of marines did not match impressment of sailors. Some soldiers from the army were consequently used at sea and to overcome line of command problems many were offered bounties to transfer to the marines full time. The marines continued to expand throughout the Napoleonic Wars so that by 1805 some 30,000 marines had been voted by parliament. Marines like soldiers were traditionally recruited for life however during the 1790 there some attempt was made to recruit for the "duration" instead.

Royal marines

RAF (Royal Air Force) is a part of defence with the only mission to support the objectives of the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), which are to "provide the capabilities needed: to ensure the security and defence of the United Kingdom and overseas territories, including against terrorism; to support the Government's foreign policy objectives particularly in promoting international peace and security."

The RAF's own mission statement reads as thus, to provide (paraphrase) "An agile, adaptable and capable Air Force that, person for person, is second to none, and that makes a decisive air power contribution in support of the UK Defence Mission."

The above statement goes hand in hand with the RAF's definition of air power, the concept that guides the RAF strategy. Air Power is defined as thus "The ability to project military force in air or space by or from a platform or missile operating above the surface of the earth. Air platforms are defined as any aircraft, helicopter or unmanned air vehicle." Although the RAF is the principal British air power arm, the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm and the British Army's Army Air Corps also deliver air power which is integrated into the maritime and land environments respectively.

A group of professional head of the RAF is the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy. The CAS heads the Air Force Board, which is a committee of the Defence Council. The Air Force Board is the management board of the RAF and consists of the Commander-in-Chief of Air Command, together with several other high ranking officers. The CAS also has a deputy known as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (ACAS); this post is held by Air Vice-Marshal T M Anderson

They are more than 3,000 RAF Servicemen and women are currently deployed on operations around the world, from those involved in peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts to those stationed on the front line in theatres of combat.

The recent wars against Iraq and Afghanistan, Tornado and Harrier forces are providing vital offensive support to troops on the ground, and Nimrods are engaged in intelligence gathering and reconnaissance. Hercules aircraft are conducting airdrops of supplies under demanding environmental conditions, while the Air Transport Force is involved in strategic airlifts and air-to-air refueling.

Over the last few years, the RAF has also played a crucial role in underpinning security in the Falkland Islands, protecting the airspace over the UK, providing a Search and Rescue service, delivering vital relief aid after the earthquake in Pakistan and, most recently, contributing to the flood relief efforts in Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire.

With the Cold War over and the emerging threat of global terror, we're ready to meet new challenges.

RAF is becoming a smaller but dynamic and flexible force. There will be fewer bases, but they will be larger and better equipped.

To meet the changing times and because of the greater capability of technology, personnel levels will fall over the next few years - from about 48,500 to 41,000.

The government has to carry on certain activities that mean they should focus on the staff we have and ensure that they get the very best equipment and training.

It doesn't mean we'll stop recruiting - far from it. We're continuing to take on new staff right across the RAF. In fact, they're a key part of our vision for the future.

Royal Air Force

For example there are sections on Logic and Reasoning, Numerical and Mechanical Comprehension. Other than this, the candidate's knowledge of the history of the Royal Marines is also put to test. In fact, there are certain techniques for studying and subsequently passing the examination. There has to be accurate referencing of data and also, there must be a comprehensive and precise methodology of study. This makes the entire effort very concentrated and effective. The primary duty of a firefighter or a paramedic is to protect and save lives of others under life-threatening conditions. The recruitment process of firefighters or paramedics is a tedious and long one. The 9/11 and 26/11 tragedies brought the professions of firefighters and paramedics much recognition. It was only after these massive blows to mankind that common men began to realize the importance of firefighters and paramedics. They symbolize valor, strength and humanity.
