Facebook Taking Up Too Much Of Your Time? You're Not the Only One

If you are using Facebook as a business networking tool and not just a social outlet, you may be disheartened at how much time it seems to take for you to create a real presence there. No one in business for themselves can afford to spend all of their time on online social networks - that's not good business. There are, however, ways to use Facebook offsite that work so well your friends will think you're there all day when you haven't even logged in!

Still using the old Facebook? Visit http://www.new.facebook.com to see what the present and future holds for Facebook activity!

Facebook CAN Suck Up All Of Your Time, But It Doesn't Have To

If you've been on Facebook for a while, you already know that it can be addictive.

It can also be confusing for those who are not internet savvy.

However, whether it's for technical or social reasons, if you're not careful, you can end up on Facebook for hours without looking up. This is especially true for those of us who are attempting to establish a business presence there. There are so many users, apps, and groups, and yet so little time.

SIGH...

Because of this overwhelming perception, many people are tempted to just blast their marketing message over the status airwaves and hope people will respond. Facebook users are very savvy, and have little tolerance for spammers who are only on the site to promote products, services, or opportunities. The makers of Facebook have even made changes to the site this year to almost force you to use it as a highly personal networking tool, which seems to require more of your precious time.

SIGH...

So, what do you do?

You use the following resources to create a presence on Facebook without you actually having to be there! That way, when you do log in, you can do only what needs to be done and GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE!

The "New" Advantage

The "New" Facebook interface is not not so great for showing off cool applications, but it ROCKS for offsite activity! Your Newsfeed and your Wall are superenhanced - and so are those of your contacts.

The following five tips will help you capitalize on this advantage and get networking and marketing results!

5 Things You Can Do To Create a Presence On Facebook Without Really Being There

  • Share important links with "Posted Items" - Most people use this feature to share links to websites and stories that they like. You should do that, too. However, if you are looking to create a business presence on Facebook, you should also use this space to promote your own web pages. Your white papers, Squidoo lenses, online article posts, press releases, company websites - anything that you think your friends can find value in that will also establish you as an expert will work. The key, however, is to post links that others may find useful. Otherwise, it's just profile spam.

Your posted items get major space on your wall and in the newsfeeds of your friends, so they make your presence known. If the page you want to share doesn't have a "Share This" Facebook button or link, use the Facebook Share Bookmarklet to add any webpage that you are viewing to your Facebook profile without being on Facebook.

    Easy peasy :-)

  • Import Your Blog - You can either import your blog with one of Facebook's blog applications or with the Notes feature (NOTE: On the New Facebook, importing your blog posts as notes may be the better option). That way, whenever you post to your blog, your friends see your headline and the introduction in their newsfeed. It is also posted to your wall for your profile visitors to see. Your friends see you, once again, without you even being there.

  • Use the Twitter application to update your status - The most popular Twitter application, FOUND HERE, can be used to sync your Twitter status with your Facebook status. Every time you update your status on Twitter, it updates your status on Facebook!

You can also do this with Utterz and Ping.fm

  • Upload photos, videos, and make wall posts with Facebook Mobile - Although you can do lots more with Facebook Mobile, the most presence-effective (and time efficient)features are the uploads and wall posts. Your mobile uploads are center stage on your wall when visitors come to see your profile, and you can use them to gain personal presence points. Your Facebook friends want to know that you're a real person, too! You can use personal photos to inspire people and attract them to you so that they pay more attention to your business and marketing efforts.

  • Utilize the Facebook applications for the social bookmarking sites you use - Facebook has Digg, StumbleUpon, Del.icio.us, and other social bookmarking applications that can report your social bookmarking activity on Facebook newsfeeds. you have to opt-in to this reporting, but whenever you Digg or Stumble a site, you can make it so that your Facebook friends know about it, giving you a presence on the site even when you are somewhere else altogether.
