How to get rid of blackheads? is the question asked in the title above, but a better question would be - How to get rid of blackheads without causing lasting damage to your skin?

This article will show you a method of getting rid of blackheads safely, and it will also explain a simple skin care routine that you can follow to avoid getting them in the future.

Most people just squeeze and pop their blackheads, and they seem to derive a lot of pleasure/satisfaction from this strange hobby! My advice is don't be like most people, because this is probably the worst thing you can do - blackheads are a mild form of acne, and squeezing them often creates an infection, which inevitably leads to more severe forms of acne (i.e. those nasty, painful red spots). Don't even be tempted to buy a special blackhead remover or blackhead extractor, because, despite what the advertisements might say, they still damage your skin!

Blackhead Removal

So, how do you go about removing blackheads if you are not allowed to squeeze them? My advice is to use the following natural blackhead treatment once per day until the blackheads have cleared up:

1. Have a five minute facial steam bath. Simply fill your bathroom sink with steaming hot water, add a few drops of tea tree oil to the water, place a towel over your head to form a hood, place your face a safe distance away from the water (i.e. not that close that the heat is uncomfortable).

2. Quickly rinse your face with cool water.

3. Whilst your skin is still soft and warm, and your pores are open, cleanse it with organic tea tree oil soap. Rub the soap into your face using gentle circular motions, until a rich lather is formed - be careful not to get any soap in your eyes.

4. After allowing the lather to sit on your face for one minute, rinse it off with tepid water.

5. Add a few drops of water to one tablespoon of the the baking soda mixture described below, to create a gritty paste. Use gentle circular strokes to rub the paste into your face for one or two minutes, and then rinse off with cool water.

6. Moisturize your skin by using gentle circular motions to apply aloe vera gel. This gel is very soothing, and it also has anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties, which helps prevent the acne bacteria from spreading.

Maintaining healthy skin

Once your skin is blackhead free, you should switch to following a daily healthy skin maintenance plan. All you need to do is follow the blackhead treatment above, but simply miss out step 5. Then, every one or two weeks, do step 5 as well.

What I have described above is an effective treatment for blackheads, which should prevent you from developing more serious forms of acne. However, you mustn't ignore the fact that blackheads, like all forms of acne, are an indication that you have a lot of toxins in your body. Blackheads themselves are a mixture of the sebum that your body naturally produces to keep your skin soft, healthy, and moisturized, and the toxins that your body is attempting to expel through your skin.

What you should really focus on is cleansing your body of these toxins, by making some simple lifestyle changes. There are a number of programs available to show you how to do this, and, in my opinion, the most effective one is Mike Walden's Acne No More .

This program provides a number of natural treatments similar to the how to get rid of blackheads treatment described above, which are targeted at other kinds of acne problems. More importantly though, it also describes some simple lifestyle changes that will prevent the formation of acne in the first place. Although these lifestyle changes are simple, they do require a bit of willpower to implement, but I am sure that you will find that the improvements it will make to your skin will be more than worth it.
