How to Lower Blood Pressure
Lowering high blood pressure is not something you just stumble upon and miraculously fix. It takes an understanding of your problem and a proper diet and exercise program. Some people prefer to use drugs to lower their blood pressure while others seek a natural treatment. Normal blood pressure is 140 over 85. Difference in race and geographical regions will change the normal a bit, but if the blood pressure is higher than 140 over 85 it is considered to be to high.
Often high blood pressure is a problem several years before any symptoms show up or any damage occurs. If left untreated it will cause severe damage to your body. Kidney failure, heart attacks, and mini or full stroke to the brain are all results of untreated high blood pressure. You can avoid these by regularly checking your blood pressure and taking the proper steps to treat it.
Treating high blood pressure is not extremely difficult, if you are aware of your problem and committed to taking the proper steps to resolve it. There are many drugs available to lower blood pressure, but just because you heard of a drug that works wonders doesn't mean you should use it. Let your doctor decide if you should use drugs. In extreme cases where emergency treatment is needed, drugs that lower blood pressure immediately are used. This is a risky and dangerous practice and used only in extreme emergencies.
Changing your lifestyle to include healthy, balanced meals and adding regular exercise will eventually need to be done to control your blood pressure. Living a healthy life free from the risks of high blood pressure will require a lifestyle change. If you struggle with eliminating any of the following start by reducing each one and find a buddy or someone who will help you stay accountable.
Stop smoking.
If you smoke I'm sure you've heard from several hundred people about all the bad things smoking does to you so I'm not going to repeat them. If you do smoke and you suffer from high blood pressure it will be extremely difficult to keep your blood pressure at a normal level. Take the patch, stop cold turkey or do whatever it takes to stop your addiction, and your high blood pressure will disappear with the cigarettes.
Stop drinking
At least no more than 1 glass a day, for some people alcohol doesn't have the effect on their blood pressure like it does on others. If drinking alcohol raises your blood pressure, you'll need to quit altogether.
Loose weight
This is where the diet change is going to play a big part as well. Stop eating fast food, junk food and sweets. Tell yourself you won't eat any of it for a month and replace the junk food with healthy food. Whenever I start eating to much ice cream or salty snacks (my weakness) I will eliminate them for a month. By the time the month is up I've found that I would rather eat the fruits, vegetable and other foods that I've replaced the junk food with.
Start following an aerobics exercise video or just try to break a sweat at least once a day. Start with the following videos and follow this program to lower your blood pressure naturally.
