It's late at night and you are lying comfortable in your bed. All of a sudden, without any rhyme or reason, you feel as if you are going to face a heart attack. You have experienced similar feelings before and each time you had chose to ignore it, since they were not so serious. A visit by the physician and a test on the portable ECG machine reveals that there are no problems with your heart. Welcome to the world of panic attacks! These attacks come out of the blue and without any warning. The main reason why these attacks confuse many people is that they can occur even if the person is in a relaxed frame of mind or even when their mind is sedated like when they are asleep. Panic attacks can be a one time affair or there can be multiple episodes of the same. In case of the latter, these attacks are caused by certain situations. There have been occasions when simple tasks like speaking in public or even the relative easy task of signing a check have triggered of panic attacks. There is a feeling in the mind of the sufferer as if they are trapped within something unknown from which there is no escape.
