My first site was set up at freewebs.com,and is still there,i've changed it around loads of times and still use it to promote stuff,although it's looking a little sad now.
It has to be one of the best free web hosts for the beginner,offering easy to use and understand controls.
You can have pages that are hidden,and i suggest you have one or two for practicing on.
