Potty Train Your Puppy

The first thing you will probably want to do is potty train your new puppy. This is the one thing that every dog owner needs to do even if they don't intend to address any of the other behavioral issues that a good puppy training class will address. You will have to decide whether you are going to train your puppy to go on a mat in a corner of a room, to use a specific spot in their kennel, or if you are going to train them to sit at the door and let you know they have to go outside. If you need help with this or any of the aspects of how to train a puppy there are lots of resources online to help you out.

Train Your Puppy with Love

The other aspects of training are easily accomplished with a little help from puppy training classes or written courses if you just remember to treat your puppy with a lot of love. A dog will do anything to please you so if you praise it when it does good things it will want to keep doing those things to make you happy. You can scold your dog if they do something wrong, but you have to do it immediately because they won't understand why you are scolding them if it is hours later. This will just lead to confusion and really negate a lot of the work you are doing.

Training your puppy well is so important! My brother just got a puppy for the first time and I've been trying to give him some pointers - but I think I'll refer him to this lens instead. I'm also heading off to buy him a copy of The Ultimate House Training Guide - he REALLY needs it!
