How Does Reiki Work

I thought this was a good description of Reiki at a website I found recently. http://www.reiki.org/faq/WhatIsReiki.html

It is pretty much exactly the feeling I have always gotten when I have had Reiki done on me. This website also has a very interesting proponent that they call The Global Reiki Healing Network. It is a beautiful concept, where you can commit to sending daily healing energy to areas of conflict and disaster. One has to wonder- if we all did that- would it make a palpable difference in our world?
I am still optimistic enough to believe it would.
So go to this site, and send your healing, positive energy where it needs to go.

Reiki works, but how? What does it do to us physiologically, and what does it do psychologically? This question holds for all alternative medicines. What does traditional medicine miss, that alternative medicine taps into with such success?

So let us take a better look at Jesus, since he was our role model as
Christians. Jesus said that we, like him, are sons of GOD, and children of
GOD. With this in mind, consider that Jesus was not teaching people that HE
was special, and made in the image of and likeness God (which he was, of
course)... but rather that we ALL are special, and made in the likeness of
GOD. Consider that Jesus was saying that there is God in each of us. Now if
that is true it follows that if Jesus can perform miracles, walk on water, feed the
masses, etc, so can we all.

I have to say that I consider this blog an exploration, since I am not an expert in Reiki. But I have experienced Reiki several times. And I have said to myself "This is great stuff." "I want to know more, and even learn it myself." Because there is something sort of mysterious about Reiki. Something supernatural or even (I hate to say it) 'holy'.

The first time Reiki was done to me was in a women's group that I attended to deal with the effects of living with an active alcoholic. The wound I was facing went deeper, as wounds tend to do, and soon I was dealing with some hidden trauma from my childhood. I was dealing with a sort of Post Traumatic Stress.

In a moment I was six years old again. There was no air and the room was closing in, and so was my chest. My breathing started coming in gasps, the present slipped away, and I was sure, as I had been at six years old, that I was going to die.

The feeling of impending death was strong when I felt two hands on me. Lost in my fog, I did not know at the time that the hands came from a Reiki Master who was in our group. Now one hand was on my back and one was on my chest. Then came a flood of warmth through my whole body. And then came a pervading, all-encompassing peace. In a few moments I was alive again and all was well.

I remember thinking later "How did that powerful change happen in me, and without a word being spoken?" It was strange to think of, and almost other-worldy.Later I remember thinking "Everyone should know about this, and everyone should be learning how to do this."

Recently I came back to this thought when I was creating my blogs. By this point I knew that my path in life was to educate people about what I call "Second Hand Addiction" or the sickness you get from loving an addicted person. www.secondhandaddiction,blogspot.com I made use of this great tool of Reiki now and then, but I would not be the one learn to do it.

Now that is me, but perhaps you are different, Maybe your path is to be the one to bring this to powerful work to others. There is a whole world of pain waiting to be healed, and Reiki is one great way you can do it. So I write this blog hoping some of your will get started, healing first yourself, and later others around you through the miracle of your healing hands.

How does Reiki work? Here's what I would say...

It's new-age, it's wacky, it doesn't work. And a lot of silly, gullible people spend their hard earned dollars on it in vain.

I'm sure if you've been around medicine you've heard statements like this. You may even have thought them. And in my younger days, I would have thought them too. Except for one small problem. Reiki does work for both healing as well as spiritual growth, and millions of people across the globe could testify to this.

But here we sit in the Scientific Age of Reason. And we ask how does Reiki Work? In point of fact, we don't think it does. It shouldn't work, we say. It couldn't work. It has no drugs-no surgery. 'Normal' doctors avoid it. You can't see Reiki and you can't hear it. So how could it possibly work? And from this standpoint we rational brains simply assert...Reiki doesn't work.

But there's still that little problem... Reiki does work.

Let's look at Reiki a bit here to see if we can figure this out. In a Reiki session you lay your hands on someone and use your life energy to help someone else's life energy to flow. Now that's just downright crazy. Anyone would say it, right. Now Reiki originated in Japan a long time ago. This is all the more reason to be skeptical. I mean no-one knew anything about medicine back then. So how could there be any validity to this stuff at all?

Well the question of 'How does Reiki work', and Reiki in general is now being explored from the most unlikely of all directions, the scientists themselves. These scientists from the pioneering filed of high-energy physics are now throwing about terms regarding Reiki. They are scientific-sounding terms like 'unpolarized', 'vortex theory', and 'subatomic matter.' And by the sound of the Scientist's murmurings, one begins to get a feeling that there is indeed a life-energy flowing through the human body, and it may actually be the very basis for all of life. But it is so small that we can't detect it. All of a sudden it begins to feel like we are the ones who are back in the middle ages, does it not?

As we learn about all of this, we hear that though we can't see this energy, we can certainly feel it. Practitioners feel it as a tingling, warm, pins and needles kind of feeling. The person being practiced on feels it as a spreading warmth, or even cold, in the area that is being worked on.

Now if we take a better look, we may find that Reiki has a lot more credibility than we realize. For instance do you remember the bible and the laying on of hands? It sounds like Reiki to me. How about you? It makes you wonder if maybe the people in the days of yore were not so simple-minded as we thought. Perhaps , when you look at it, they were actually quite smart and enlightened. For instance, they knew enough to figure out- if it works, don't worry about why or how- just use it. Not a bad thought for the Age of Reason to ponder, is it?
