How Do You Play Darts and Where To Buy Dartboards and Darts

Want to know how to play darts? My spouse and I recently got a dartboard and put it up in the garage. We have been having such a good time it's brought us closer together. I highly recommend getting yourself a dartboard if you don't have one.

The first thing we had to learn was how high to put up the dartboard. Then we had to figure out how far away we needed to stand away from the dartboard when we throw the darts. We wanted to stick with the rules and regulations for the game darts.

The next thing we had to learn was how to play darts, or as we found out, it's called Cricket. The rules are listed below, as well as the other rules and regulations for darts.

The dartboard came with darts, so we used them. We still aren't real good, but we are definitely getting better. It's something that we do together now that we both love.

Now we are looking at other darts and accessories to buy and I list them below. If you have any ideas, please leave comments.

How High Should a Dartboard Be From the Ground?

The bullseye should be 5 feet 8 inches from the floor.

As far as I know there are no regulations about where the board is mounted as long as it's straight.

We put ours up in the garage, so there's just a regular wall with sheetrock. The brackets are where a stud is behind the sheetrock so it's sturdy.

How Far Away Do You Stand to Throw Darts?

From the face of the board, your toe should be 7 feet and 9 1/4 inches. We used a piece of duct tape and if we step over the end of the tape, we are disqualified from the turn.

Rules and Regulations for the Game Cricket

The only game we have learned so far is Cricket. When I learn some more games I will post them here so bookmark this page and come back later.

The main goal is to hit each of these numbers three times: 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 and the bullseye.

If you hit the outside circle on any number except the bullseye it counts as 2, or a double. To score this, multiply the target number by two. Ex: double 20 = 40.

If you hit the inner circle on any number except the bullseye it counts as 3, or a triple. To score this, multiply the target number by three. Ex: triple 20 = 60.

The center of the bullseye (usually red) counts as two (50 points) and the outer circle of the bullseye counts as one (25 points).

Anywhere else within the outer circle is counted as one (1).

When you hit your target 3 times, it is considered closed. When a target is closed, the opposition cannot score on that target, but you can keep scoring on it until your opposition closes theirs.

To win the game, you must close out all of your targets with the most amount of points. If a player closes out all of their targets, but do not have the highest score, the game continues until either the player with the closed targets scores more points than their opponent, or their opponent closes out the rest of their targets before the player who closed out his targets first can pass them in points.

There are other versions of Cricket, such as Gentleman's Cricket, Wild Mouse (aka Minnesota or Moose), Marty Mouse, Adding/Deleting Numbers and Cut Throat Cricket.

It is a long time since I have played darts. As a child we had a board in the kitchen - it had a lot of small holes around it in the wall!
