In the introduction, Janet writes:
I haven't attempted to produce the definitive book on creative novel writing. I'm simply passing on what works for me. This is how I write. And these are the answers to the questions I've been asked over the years.
I love it already!

My Favorite Takeaways
- Character Essentials 1 - three excellent tips for creating a dimensional character that has the human qualities we look for in a book. Many books I've read by amateur authors have a problem with characterization, and rewriting the characters with these three things in mind could improve most of the books by a thousand percent.
- Showing vs Telling - this is one area that I struggle with, because I can never quite tell if I've showed enough, vs what I've told. Janet gives some great examples, and you can pull more from her well written novels.
- Cliffhangers - Janet poses some great tips for placing cliffhangers and using them to create an emotional response for your readers.
