How long to cook a stuffed turkey

BEST ANSWER: 20 MINUTES FOR EVERY POUND

I always cook mine in a Baking Bag. This makes it very moist, and speeds up the cooking time. For a 12 to 16lb. turkey: bake 2 to 21/2 hours. Or, if you aren't using a Baking Bag; then if you have a meat thermometer- the turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 180 degrees.

If you have neither the Baking Bag nor the thermometer, then when the turkey is deep golden brown, and the leg is starting to separate from the body, its done.

Cooking time for a turkey

Remember your roaster bag.

BEST ANSWER: 1.5 Hours at 350 degrees

The turkey was in a roasting bag in a covered roaster and unstuffed. The turkey at 350 degrees came out juicy.

- Start time: 3:45
- Finish time, 5:35

The timer popped out, very nicely browned, very moist and very loose bones and it was delicious!

Best way to cook a turkey

If your turkey has been refrigerated, bring it to room temperature before you cook it.

Keep it in its plastic wrapping until you are ready to start cooking it While it's in the in the refrigerator, have the bird resting in a pan, to prevent messing up your frig or counter from leaking.

If you get a frozen turkey, you will need to defrost it in the refrigerator for several days first. Allow approximately 5 hours of defrosting for every pound.

Remove the neck and giblets (heart, gizzard, liver). and use it for making stock for your stuffing. The neck can be cooked along side the turkey or saved for turkey soup.

Best Way To Cook A Turkey: Heat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Wash out the inside of turkey with water and pull out any remaining feathers from the turkey skin. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and lather the inside of the cavity with the juice of half a lemon. Take a small handful of salt and rub all over the inside of the turkey.

Do not make the stuffing in the turkey because it adds too much to the cooking time. To flavor the turkey place inside the turkey a half a yellow onion, peeled and quartered, a bunch of parsley, a couple of carrots, and some tops and bottoms of celery. You may need to cap the body cavity with some aluminum foil so that the stuffing doesn't easily fall back out.

Rub melted butter or olive oil all over the outside and sprinkle salt generously all over the outside of the turkey or soak it in salt-water brine prior starting this process. Sprinkle pepper over the turkey.

Best Way To Cook A Turkey: Place turkey BREAST DOWN or UPSIDE DOWN

Place turkey BREAST DOWN or UPSIDE DOWN on the bottom of a rack over a sturdy roasting pan big enough to catch all the drippings.

Cook for about 15 minutes per pound or for instance, for a 15lb turkey, start the cooking at 400F for the first 1/2 hour, then reduce the heat to 350F for the next 2 hours. Reduce the heat further to 225 F for the next hour to hour and a half.

If you want the breast to be browned as well, you can turn over the bird for the last 15-20 minutes of cooking, at an oven temp of 300°F.

Start taking temperature readings with a meat thermometer, inserted deep into the thickest part of the turkey breast and thigh, a half hour before the turkey should be done. The dark meat in the thigh should be about 175 F. The white meat in the breast should be 160 F to 165 F.

Once you remove the turkey from the oven, let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Turn the turkey breast side up to carve it.
