If you've often thought about how our ancestors lived, and the simplicity of it all, then their is hope for you through the Foxfire books! The Foxfire books, are a reliable documentation on Appalachian Life.It is through these books that much of the "how to", have been preserved for future generations, looking for a way back to a simplistic and beautiful lifestyle.

As a boy, I was lucky enough to have 1,2,3 volumes.I must of spent hours upon hours reading through the material. It is no wonder that I am very simplistic in my approach to life(except for this computer).I would recommend these volumes to anyone, that is serious about getting back to the simpler ways of living! To me it is the right way!Enjoy!Only on Squidoo!

SelfSufficient Through Foxfire

Do you ever wish or dream of being free from the constraints of modern society?Being able to create your own energy needs, water supply, food, and most everything associated with this crazy thing we call modern living!

Well rest assured, it is all possible, as it was once common amongst our ancestors! It's just that we as a evolving peoples, have lost much of our knowledge about how to live this way once again!I did say evolve didn't I?Personally I think were going backwards, as society moves forward, we lose more and more things that are important to us.Probably the biggest neglect that we have performed, is the neglect of our beloved nature.

It is here and will be found again in nature, that our existence will depend on us reforming that old bond! A bond that was left behind, yet awaits those whom have the calling within, to rediscover the real essence of what we really are and can be!

The Foxfire books are a series of anthologies of articles from Foxfire magazine. The first book of the series was published in 1972. As of 2004, the most recent is Foxfire 12; also as of that date, there are nearly nine million copies of the various books in print.

The series is an effort to document the lifestyle, culture, and skills of people in southern Appalachia in a mixture of how-to information and first-person narratives and oral history. Topics covered in the books include apple butter, banjos, basket weaving, beekeeping, butter churning, corn shucking, dulcimers, faith healing, fiddle making, haints, ginseng cultivation, hide tanning, hog dressing, hunting tales, log cabin building, moonshining, midwives, old-time burial customs, planting "by the signs", preserving foods, sassafras tea, snake handling and lore, soap making, spinning, square dancing, wagon making, weaving, wild food gathering, witches, and wood carving.
