To start with let's ask the reverse question... why aren't you happy?

The answer to that question is so obvious that it seems too simplistic, but here it is anyway... 

"When you are unhappy it's simply because you feel that way," isn't it? Either angry, sad, afraid, selfish, guilty... it's a long list, but any emotion you don't like makes you feel unhappy.

So obviously, then, happiness is when you aren't feeling unhappy. But unlike unhappiness, happiness doesn't automagically happen just because you're experiencing a good feeling... like satisfaction, joy or even pleasure.

Those are only temporary emotions and although we say we "feel happy" when we experience those good feelings, they are not happiness.

Happiness occurs when you are in a "happy" state of mind, when life is just perfect exactly as it is (like when you're on vacation) and when you aren't feeling unhappy (you don't wish for things to be different).

But any unhappiness, or suffering, will stop you from being happy. Unhappiness is more powerful than happiness and it takes over whenever you start thinking life isn't perfect... then you start feeling unhappy, stressed, anxious, angry or depressed.

Then happiness fades.

Luckily, you can learn how to change those "unhappy" feelings... even eliminate them altogether... just so you can be happy.

To change your feelings (without repressing them... a very bad thing to do because that leads to depression and possibly mental breakdown) you first need to learn what your emotions really are, then learn that you only four of them:

Control: your emotion arising from expectations Attachment: how you feel about what you believe you own Addiction: fear and desire Altruism: your feelings about giving love and selfishness.

Once you understand that you are well on your way to changing your life for the better.

The final step is learning what causes your emotions inside of you, your hidden emotional beliefs, how you find them and how to change them.

Then all it takes is a little practice and you can be as happy and loved as you'd like to be. It really is simple.
