Planning a "Stranded" holiday or break
Planning to be "Stranded" as a holiday idea can be a relatively cheap way to unwind and enjoy a short break. For the ultimate in budget holidays, you can even be stranded at home.
What do you think of when you hear the question: "If you could choose one book, CD, movie, and food to have while you're stranded, what would you choose? And where would you ideally like to be stranded?"
This lens will help you to answer those questions, and then put them into some ideas for creating easy and cheap holiday experiences. Finally, I'll include some ideas for capturing the holiday vibe at home.
Bookmark this lens to return to often, as I'll be adding new thoughts and ideas soon.
You can also create your own stranded lens and join the stranded group!

Choosing and Showing off your Book
Using the Amazon module is your best bet!
OK, how did I pick a book to be stranded with? It's tough. You want a book you like, but maybe one where you'll skim a few pages here and there because sometimes you just want to get to the heart of the plot?Sure, you *could* choose something like "War and Peace" which would certainly be a challenge, but would you rather be stuck with something you potentially hate or something you know you like, but just might get a little bored with?
And to show off the book you choose to take with you, the easiest module to use is the Amazon module. You can write a description of why you like the book at the top of the module AND you can include a snippet of a review from Amazon or another site (just be sure to credit the reviewer).

Getting your groove on .. choosing a CD
Amazon or iTunes? How granular do you want to be?
It's hard to imagine listening to one CD over and over again ... forever (or at least until you were rescued). MP3 players, of course, mean you don't have to choose just one anymore. So, depending on how closely you want to stick to the "rules" of "stranded" you can use either the Amazon module to specify a single CD. Or, you can use the new iTunes module to create your very own Stranded playlist!Photo Credit: Spin by maxw
What do you want to watch tonight, honey?
Netflix or Amazon ... your choice.
What makes a favourite movie? For me, it's pretty similar to the book ... something I like, a lot, but that sometimes I will tune out during because I don't always like to concentrate :-) This lets me discover something new about the movie almost every time I watch it.When you're putting together your "Stranded" lens, you can use the Netflix module if your stranded pick happens to be on your Netflix list, or, as always, Amazon is a great standby.

Food, glorious food ...
Here, you'll have to be a little more creative
Anyway, after you've decided what you want to have every day to eat, include a recipe and a picture in your lens. I use the standard "Write! (And add a photo)" module to show off the recipe. And there are a number of places to get recipes. Check out the links below. And where ever you get your recipe from, make sure you cite the source and link to the original!
- Epicurious
- Includes the recipes from Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazine.
- AllRecipes
- A great site that has over 40,000 recipies tested by cooks worldwide.
- RecipeLand
- Has some great international recipes.
Location, location, location
Maps or Pictures - Google or Flickr modules
To me, one of the best parts of the hypothetical stranding is that you get to pick your banishment. So, if you're not a "hot climate" person, you can choose a colder locale to be stranded in.Now, showing off your location depends on where you ultimately choose. If you go somewhere in the US, you can use the Google Maps module to pinpoint your stranded locale. If you are headed further afield, you can use the flickr module to find some great pics that will illustrate where your potential rescuers can find you.
