How To Buy Police Impounded Cars - Have A Car Before Christmas

If you're after a cheap car then learning how to buy police impounded cars is a skill worth acquiring. There's nothing at all tricky about it - it's simply a case of knowing where to go and what to do.

There are hundreds of police impounded car sales happening each year. People say to me "there are no police impounds in my area" because they never hear about them. There are! You just have to know where to look.

The place I use is a paid subscription but you don't have to do it that way - you CAN find these police impounded auctions on your own.  I use a paid service because it is so much faster and easier and it costs next to nothing.

Feel free to add a comment to the Guest Book below just to let me know you were here! I do read them!

What sort of price might I find at police impounded car sales?

To check this out for you I clicked through on the DC Police Seized Vehicles(I just picked that area at random - there'll be auctions in your area) at the site I use and found a list of cars that had recently sold (early 2009). Here are a few of the winning bids.

1992 Honda Accord, 214,000 miles - $650
1997 Oldsmobile Aurora, 118,000 miles - $1,450
1994 Nissan Maxima, 118,000 miles - $1,250
1992 Chevrolet Blazer, 118,000 - $650
1986 Honda Prelude, 137,000 miles - $175
2002 Buick Century, 211,000 miles - $550
2004 Chevy Impala, 51,000 miles - $2,800 (this one was sitting on its rims, but hey! you want tires as well at that price!!)
1996 BMW 3281, 170,000 miles - $1,550
There were bikes from the Lost and Found department
2007 Honda ATV, miles unknown - $1,800
2005 Nissan Sentra, miles digital - $5,200
1997 Dodge Intrepid, 164,000 miles - $750

You can see that it's a real mixed bag. That's the thing with these seized cars - you need to be following the sales and getting a feel for the prices but there are bargains there.

These auctions of police impounded cars come up all over the country.

Hold on to your hat - that's what I'm about to do

The secret of buying police impounded cars is knowing where to look in your area to find them. The service that I use do to this is Government Auctions which will keep you up to date with all seized and surplus car sales.

What I like about them is that they make it so easy to find the things in YOUR area. They also continually update their lists.

It's not just police seized vehicles where you find these bargains. The police and defense forces regularly sell surplus vehicles, airports have sales of abandoned cars - there are a hundred reasons why a car ends up at one of these auctions.

You'll find links to all those types of sales at Government Auctions. That's why I use them.

Yes, you do have to pay to see their lists, but it's a small fee and you can check in with them every day for a year for that fee.

Your first purchase will repay that fee many times over. And once you got your wheels sorted you just might like to take a look at all the other items you can buy cheap through them!

It's hard to stop once you get the bug for it!

Don't fall in love with the first vehicle you see. Be prepared to bid on a number before you find your dream car.

I've explained the process in detail there.

MORE than cheap cars?

Yes indeed!

That site does offer much more than auto sales.

Negotiating tips buying used car

If you're buying a used car from a dealer or yard rather than through auction, you really do need to be up with all the little "tricks" they get up to!

Talk about sharks!

This report was an eyeopener to me!

I thought I knew most of the dodges but these negotiating tips on buying a used car - from an ex-car salesman - amazed me.

I just did not realize how much of a "babe-in-the-woods" I was when it came to a dealers yard!
