Dog care basics!

I am my Mum's first dog EVER! When she got me she sure had a lot to learn about taking care of me. So we wanted to share a lot of what she learned with you!

From potty and basic to advance training, grooming, health and fitness to play, and fun - we're bringing you the basic info you need to have a healthier, happier dog!

Check back often, 'cause we're always updating. And when you get a chance be sure and visit my other lenses for lots more dog information!

First things, first - potty training!

The clicker way!

My Mum trained me to 'do my business' (and all my other 'tricks') using a clicker, and she used a clicker to crate train me too, to keep me safe! My crate is my den, my safe place, and my travel place, so I always feel at home.

We used the Karen Pryor Clickertraining method, which we absolutely love. Once I started getting the hang of potty training, Mum hung bells on the back door, so that I could ring them when I needed to do my business! She could hear me from anywhere in the house, announcing it was time!

We highly recommend using clicker training, for all kinds of training. Here's a great video explaining how to potty train and crate train your pup using the clicker!

And when you get a chance, stop by my Squidoo lens, "The Scoop on Doo" to learn about it's importance in gauging the status of my health, and all pups health.

Next up - training!

A trained pup, is a happy pup. We all need jobs, and dogs are no exception. We want to please, we want to be good, we just have to learn now!

My Mum has taught me all kinds of behaviors - sit, stay, lie down, go mat, load up (in my crate), ring a bell to tell her I want to go potty, shake paw, high five and she's taught me how to do agility - my favorite sport. And I learned all of this and more through clicker training.
Mum and I are big proponents of clicker training. It really helps me learn just exactly what she wants me to know, easily, efficiently and quickly. It's makes us both happy and we both have a great time!

Here is a great video introduction to clicker training from Karen Pryor Clickertraining. Us pups can learn an unbelievable amount of tricks and behaviors using clicker training.

Exercise and play are very important parts of a pups life! Just ask me. If I don't get in some good play and exercise every day, I'm not the best behaved pup on the planet.

Dog grooming basics!

Grooming for us pups is essential! We need to have our ears cleaned, teeth brushed, fur trimmed, brushed and bathed, have our nails trimmed and more. Mum does all my grooming. Why? Because she believes it's an amazing bonding experience for both of us, and it's much less expensive than taking me to groomer.

She helped me to like being groomed, even having my nails trimmed (which isn't my favorite thing in the world), through clicker training.

Here are a few grooming videos to help you learn a few grooming basics for your pup!
