Welcome to How To Clean Green

I have a passion for being green. No not the color silly. I am also what some people might call a "clean freak". I wanted a place were I could blog about my experiences of trying to clean as green as possible. I plan on reviewing different green cleaning products and devices so you don't have to waste your time. I hope that you find this lens helpful. If you do like my lens then please vote for it and leave me a comment. Thanks! Hope I am able to provide some useful information on cleaning green. Stay tuned for my article on carpet steam cleaners.

My Review of The Shark Steam Mop

The people who make the Shark Steam mop have released a new version of their famous mop called the Shark Steam Pocket Mop which I will review as soon as I have time.

Last week I finally bought a Shark Steam Mop. Yes, I had seen the infomercial and yes, I was extremely interested in finding out if this thing really would work like it said it would! I consider myself very aware of what I use to clean the house with. I do not want my small children around toxic chemicals nor my pets when I choose cleaners for the non-carpeted areas of my house.

The day after I bought it I sat down in the living room and assessed the current levels of dirtiness around my hard floor surfaces. I noticed that there was about a weeks' worth of dirt, soda spills, a little food dropped in the kitchen and hair from the dog. "Right" I said, "this is the perfect time to test this Shark Steam Mop out". I took the steam mop out of its box, assembled it with ease in minutes and washed the included reusable microfiber pads as directed by the instructions.

I filled up the unique reservoir on the Shark Steam Mop with tap water and plugged it into a nearby outlet. Within minutes the mop was fully charged and ready to deliver an awesome level of steam cleaning my house was not used to. I used the Shark Steam Mop in my kitchen, on the tile flooring leading to the living room, on my hardwood floors and on the faux-wood entrance to my house. The Shark Steam Mop performed above average on each surface. It was easy to push forward and activate the steam cleaning; I only had to refill the reservoir once and used both pads for the whole of my lower level. When I was finished I simply threw the pads into the washing machine to be used again later in the day on the top level of the house (they need to be washed separately from your other laundry but that's certainly not a big deal). The soda stains, food, and dirt was gone and boy was I happy with my Shark Steam Mop!

Pros and Cons of The Shark Steam Mop

Pros:

Nice quiet machine, only a gentle hissing comes out.

The electrical cord is pretty long, allowing for some easy movement

I refilled the reservoir with tap water without waiting for the mop to cool.

Works awesome on my wood floors, tiles and faux-wood flooring.

The Shark Steam Mop easily got caked over mud from the entrance way of my house, also very good on sticky stains in the kitchen.

Mop stays nice and sanitary since I washed the microfiber pads directly after using the mop.

Cons:

The vinyl flooring gave the Shark Steam Mop a little more trouble than the rest of the surfaces but this may be due to an unnaturally high level of grime buildup on this part of the house.

The handle could move about a little bit more, a little bit more flexibility when using would make this product even better.
