301 Redirect

Redirecting visitors from an old page on your website

A 301 redirect is understood as "moved permanently" and is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for redirecting a page on your website.

It's not very difficult to configure and more importantly, it will preserve your search engine rankings for that page. It is the best option if you have to change the name of a page or remove a page from your site entirely.

The website www.webconfs.com gives instructions on how to create a 301 Redirect

Google - Don't Be Evil?

Google Attempts to Distance itself from it's Motto.

"Google's "Don't Be Evil" motto, first uttered by Googler Paul Buchheit (now founder of FriendFeed) in 2001, has long been the pillar of their self-imposed code of conduct. It was amended somewhat in 2006 when CEO Eric Schmidt, under fire for entering the Chinese market with censorship restrictions, said "We actually did an evil scale and decided not to serve at all was worse evil." He turned it into a sort of evil minimization algorithm."

How to Create a Web Page with Google Adwords

Here at Weaver's Digest our goal is to provide useful information on how to create a web page. More and more Web Weavers are incorporating Google Ads into their website to generate a bit of extra revenue. These days with high speed broadband connections we tend to neglect paying attention to keeping our pages light in regards to load times.

Vivian of the Inside AdWords crew writes:

"As part of our continuing efforts to improve the user experience, we will soon incorporate an additional factor into Quality Score: landing page load time. Load time is the amount of time it takes for a user to see the landing page after clicking an ad.

Why are we doing this?
Two reasons: first, users have the best experience when they don't have to wait a long time for landing pages to load. Interstitial pages, multiple redirects, excessively slow servers, and other things that can increase load times only keep users from getting what they want: information about your business. Second, users are more likely to abandon landing pages that load slowly, which can hurt your conversion rate.

When are we making this change?
In the next few weeks, we will add load time evaluations to the Keyword Analysis page (we'll notify you when they are available). You will then have one month to review your site and make necessary adjustments.

After the one month review period, this load time factor will be incorporated into your keywords' Quality Scores. Keywords with landing pages that load very slowly may get lower Quality Scores (and thus higher minimum bids). Conversely, keywords with landing pages that load very quickly may get higher Quality Scores and lower minimum bids.

To learn more about the upcoming change, please see this article in the AdWords Help Center."

You Tube: Now in Hi-Res!

How to create a web page with hi res video

Do you know how to create a web page with hi res video content? Well, you can now embed High-Resolution Videos in your website....with YouTube!

"The words YouTube and "high-resolution" have never really fit well in the same sentence. YouTube has always greatly limited the resolution of their videos to conserve on bandwidth, but going forward that may not always be the case. As it turns out there is a little something that you can add on to the end of a YouTube URL to have it play a high-resolution version of the same video.

The thing that you need to know, however, is that not every video has been re-encoded into the higher quality. In fact, I've tested this "trick" on about 40 videos, and only 7 of them had a higher quality version available. I've been reading around about this, and it looks as though newly uploaded videos are being converted a few hours after they've been added. And no one really seems to be sure as to whether it depends on the format of video (AVI, WMV, etc%u2026)."

How to Create a Web Page

How to Create a Web Page that will Rank Well in the Search Engines

Too often the focus of web weavers is on how to create a web page that looks good or functions well. Many don't think much about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to get the pages to actually appear in search results.

I've listed a few mistakes people usually make when learning how to make a web page:

Common Mistakes:
1. No 'Robots.txt' file.
2. Bad use of Page Title tag
3. Not using H1 tags.
4. No Site Map
5. Not adhering to standards suggested by the W3C.

And here are some actions that you can take to improve your ranking in search engines:

Positive Steps:
1. Use descriptive title tags on links as well as images.
2. Internal linking for increased Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
3. Making Key words Internal links
4. Enter your site in DMOZ and other online directories
5. Use Social Networking sites to promote your site

These topics will be covered in more detail in future posts. So stay tuned to 'How to Make a Web Page'

How To Create a Web Page Domain Name

So you've figured out how to create a web page and now you want to create your own domain name. But how do you decide what to call it? Does it matter what you call it? Like any name, label or title your website's domain name tells viewers a lot about the content of the site, at least it should do. What about mywebsite.com or wouldyouliketoknowhowtobuildawebsite.com? Both of these are really good examples of ineffective domain names. The first one tells the reader nothing about your website's contents and the second is ridiculously too long and easy to forget or mistype when entering into the address field on the browser.

Some web hosts such as Blue Host give a free domain name as a part of the package....just sayin is all.

In his blog Matthew Peschong discusses a range of considerations to make when choosing a Domain Name, such as:

1. Start brainstorming for relevant to your domain words.
2. Make different combinations
3. Pick a few of these combinations that you most like for the name of your domain.
4. Start searching for the availability of these domains.
5. If you do business online, register your domain with as many of the extensions as available!
6. If your preferred choice is not available, do not discourage and try the next combination!

How to Create a Web Page

Learn How to Create a Web page with a Web Store

One way to sell products online is to learn how to create a web page store. Robert Riles gives a good summary of that process to give an overview of what is entailed in creating a web store in his post 'How to build a web store' at the American Chronicle.

He breaks it into 9 simple steps:

1.Create an extensively thought of and detailed business plan.

2.Once you have decided the product that you want to sell, make sure that you also have more than one supplier who gives you good prices and good delivery times.

3.Next, choose a good domain name for your site. Try to keep it relevant to what you are selling and as simple and easy to spell as possible.

4.Search extensively for the most used keywords when people are looking for products that you are selling. Try to incorporate the most relevant one into your url if possible, and use the others extensively on your web site in order to optimize it for search engine result pages."
