Tips that help you fall asleep fast

Now more than ever, people seem to be having a hard time falling asleep. They then resort to pills and medicines that will help them fall asleep faster. But here's the truth.

You really don't need medicine to fall asleep.
In reality, you just need to teach yourself how to fall asleep and that's exactly what this lens should help you do.

Reading a book helps people the most.
I just wanted to let you guys know now that this Lens has been up for sometime, it would seem that out of all of the tips below, people seem to be saying that reading before bed is the most effective strategy. Also, I wanted to let you guys know that I also started a blog called DoStrong.com. Feel free to check it out! :-)

The Beginning: Developing a Pattern

Most of us who are having trouble sleeping would like to to asleep a little sooner than normal. If this is you, you'll first need to be tired enough to fall asleep.

Night 1 - You'll want to try to fall asleep a little sooner tonight. I realize it may be tough, but just give it your all otherwise you'll be up for a rude awakening.

Morning 1 - This morning you'll want to get up at the time you're aiming to get up at. Maybe you're aiming for 7:00 AM. If that's the case, get up at 7:00 AM. Note that you'll likely be extremely tired, but to get quick results, you'll need to drastically change your sleeping patterns right away.

Night 2 - Tonight you'll probably be pretty tired from Night 1. If you are, then that's great. It's all part of the plan. Tonight, you should be able to fall asleep earlier than the night before by a long shot.

Morning 2 - This morning you'll likely be able to wake up a little easier. However, it's not uncommon to still be extremely tired during Morning 2.

Night 3 - You'll likely fall asleep a lot easier and sooner tonight.

Morning 3 - You should finally be getting used to this sleep pattern.

Continue to go to sleep earlier - Continue trying to fall asleep earlier and waking up at "your time." Soon enough, you'll be able to fall asleep a lot easier and a lot quicker at the time in which you desire to do so.

Still having trouble falling asleep?

If you're still having sleeping problems then you could have some other sort of physiological issue. I don't want to say that you have a sleeping disorder because in my opinion, everything can be cured naturally if you put in the time and the effort to learn how to cure it.

Count those Sheep to sleep

This is one of my favorite ways to fall asleep quickly. Counting sheep will really clear your mind. It was pretty effective for me and a lot of others seem to believe that this tactic also works quite well for them.

Why does this tactic work so well? - Sleeping is all about resting and teaching yourself how to relax. For some reason, counting sheep seems to accomplish the resting and relaxing aspects of falling asleep.

How to implement this tactic: - If you've decided to utilize this strategy then that's great. For it to work at it's best, count individual sheep. Slowly see the sheep go in front of you from right to left. Don't count fast. Remember, you're trying to relax. Continue counting until you've fallen asleep.

Drink Warm Milk

This didn't work well for me. Then again, I only tried it once. I definitely recommend that you give it a chance. This has worked quite well for others. I have also heard that Peanut Butter has the same effect.

Either way, if you're looking for some natural home sleep remedies then this would definitely be one of them. About 10 minutes before you get in bed, warm up a glass of cold milk in the microwave. Be sure to use a coffee cup and also be cautious not to overheat the milk.

Now, slowly drink the warm milk. After you've done this use the restroom if you have to and then lay in bed. Apparently milk has a chemical in it that will make you relax. Thus, you have a better chance at falling asleep.

Writing Helps you Fall Asleep

If you have stuff you're thinking about or that you're trying to memorize, write it down. For some people, writing things down can be like releasing thoughts from their mind.

That's how well writing works too. If something is bothering you then pull out a pen and a piece of paper. Trust me, this is far better than just sitting there thinking about it. Again, sitting there thinking about an issue is definitely not going to make you fall asleep any faster.

That's why I like using the writing to fall asleep trick. It really does seem to work quite well.

Read to sleep

It's relaxing and it's another technique that will also clear your mind. Read right before bed and see if you fall asleep any quicker.

Trust me. It really does work. I tried it and it almost instantly cleared all of my other thoughts. Now of course I don't need to do anything because I have become so consistent with my sleep patterns that I am just lights out, but this really does work. If you really want to know how to fall asleep easily then try reading a book for 15 minutes while you're in bed.

You'll be lights out after that.

Relax to fall asleep

If you've ever been curious to why your friends can fall asleep in no time at all this is why they can: They know how to relax. Relaxing is one of the key ingredients that will naturally allow you to fall asleep quickly and easily. If you don't learn how to relax then you likely won't be able to fall asleep quickly.

With that being said, some of the following tips should definitely help you relax.

Yoga, breathing, and relaxation exercises : These exercises were created to help you relax. I am sure that there are other types of exercises that you can also follow to relax, but these are the main ones that I know of. I recommend doing the exercises sometime during your day. However, I don't recommend doing them right before bed because it takes too much energy and too much work to perform them.

Reading and Writing : Like I stated above, reading and writing can be some of the best possible things that you can do before bed. These exercises are very relaxing and are very stress relieving. I definitely recommend doing them right before going to bed.

Anything else relaxing : Doing anything else that you can do to make yourself relax is a great way to help yourself fall asleep. Maybe you enjoy taking a bath or watching television. Again, anything that will make you relax is definitely good to do before attempting to go to sleep.

Consistent Routines are Key

Finally, the most important part of falling asleep easily is following a routine. If you don't follow a routine, falling asleep easily is almost impossible.

Imagine: Trying to go to bed at 2:00 AM, 4:00 AM, and then 9:00 PM. It's just not going to work.

Pick a time you want to go to sleep and try to be consistent.
