Myth #1: Moving trial date to officer's day off
This strategy is too uncertain to be effective. You won't know the officer's schedule and the prosecution already has a back up plan for this because so many people have tried to do it in the past. Plus, you basically use up your "in case of emergency" chance.

Myth #2: Recording the officer during the "scene"
This let's the officer know you're going to be a "potential problem". They will end up writing you up for the worst offense possible, and they will make sure they are even more prepared to duke it out in court.

Also, don't ask to check the radar gun. This will again tip the officer off and they will really try to get you.

Myth #3: Having a great excuse
This strategy is too unreliable to work. This depends on the officer's mercy. Can you really afford to test this theory out?

Same thing goes for in the courtroom. You cannot beat speeding tickets in court throwing yourself at the judges mercy. This will only cause him to laugh at you.

Myth #4: Discrediting the officer on the stand.
Some people actually follow this advice. In court, there are usually other officer's in the room, and this will only make you a "target" in the future.

Myth #5: Paying extra on the fine
This is a new theory making rounds of urban legends. You overpay your fine and the state can't convict you until the papers get sorted. Sounds plausible, but you rarely hear it actually working for a person. Always from a friend or a friend of a friend.

The problem is, once you are found guilty, it's entered into the state's record. Then the insurance companies are notified and murder you with surcharges. They don't care how much you paid.

Watch traffic ahead
Look for people all of sudden pumping their brakes for no apparent reason. To be effective, you have to look farther you are used to seeing. Take frequent glances ahead on highways, especially places like bridges, medians, and hills. That's where the speed traps are, and people tap their brakes instinctively when they see a cop, even if they aren't speeding. This simple increase in your awareness can be very effective.

Use a "blocker"
My favorite technique to use, and one of the best to use. Simply wait until a faster car goes by, and follow them from a distance. Enjoy the fact the fact that they will be flushing out the cops and warning you with his brake lights.

Truckers are especially good "blockers" because they pay a lot of attention to avoiding tickets since it's the way they make a living. Also, trucks almost always have CB radios (which you can get most electronic stores) that provide warnings on Channel 19. Just don't follow too close..they hate that and it really isn't safe anyway.

Use your mirrors
An increasing percentage of people are getting stopped by police cars sneaking up on them from behind. With more use of unmarked cars, this method is becoming more popular. To combat this, glace in your mirrors frequently to ensure no cars are approaching from the rear.

Unmarked cars can be tough to spot, so always be on the lookout. I've personally seen Mustangs, Camaros, and SUVs as unmarked cars. Be aware what is behind you and beside you.

While some say you are stupid if you don't have one, others say if you get caught with one, you'll definitely get a ticket. I say, better to have it than not. Because if you get pulled over, what is the chance you won't get a ticket without having a radar detector?

Now, there are a few strategies to consider. First off, you want a good product. No sense in getting one that doesn't perform well. Make sure you choose one that is good at filtering out the false alarms. There are some good sites that rate and review them. Passport 8500 is a good one, and so is Valentine.

You also may want to consider a remote radar detector. These units separate antenna from controls so they can be hidden. The antenna is hidden behind the grill and the control is under the dash so a cop can't spot it if you drive by or if he pulls you over.
