How to find good tech support
Here are my ideas on how to find good technical support.

It's not so easy to find a good one.
The computer technical support arena is crowded. When you need technical support, how do you separate the wheat from the chaff?
It's similar to finding a good auto mechanic, good dentist, or good accountant. Word of mouth is important. In most stable markets, good tech support people drive out the bad ones. Until recently, south Florida has been expanding, so bad tech support people could continue to wreck users' systems because there were always plenty of new customers.
With some luck, that aspect of south Florida is changing: south Florida's population decreased by 80,000 in 2007.
I recommend that people ask their friends about their computer support experiences. Try to speak with the technician -- not a salesperson -- who will be doing the work. How knowledgable is he/she? How much experience does he/she have? Is he/she able to provide as much detail about your problem and a proposed diagnosis and repair plan as you ask for?
