One of the best "secrets" to internet marketing is to find a underserved niche market - and serve them with the products and info the want.
Not much of a "secret" now, is it? =)
The concept sounds simple enough, but I find that for many folks, actually going and FINDING a niche market proves to be a very difficult task.

If there is a magazine around that niche, there is probably money to be made =)

Niche Market
The Definition
A niche market.....
"..defines the specific product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs..."
A niche is very specific and does not satisfy ALL of the market...just one very specific segment of that market.
Here is Wikipedia's definition of "Niche Market"
A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing on; Therefore the market niche defines the specific product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range, production quality and the demographics that is intended to impact.
Every single product that is on sale can be defined by its niche market. As of special note, the products aimed at a wide demographics audience, with the resulting low price (due to Price elasticity of demand), are said to belong to the Mainstream niche, in practice referred only as Mainstream or of high demand. Narrowed demographics though lead to elevated price because of the same principles.
In practice, product vendors and trade businesses are commonly referred as mainstream providers or narrow demographics niche market providers (colloquially shortened to just niche market providers). Small capital providers usually opt for a niche market with narrow demographics as a measure of increasing their gain margins.
Nevertheless, the final product quality (low or high) is not dependant on the price elasticity of demand though, it is more associated with the specific needs that the product is aimed at satisfy and in some cases with brand recognition which the vendor wants to be associated with (i.e Prestige, Practicability, Money saving, Expensiveness, Planet environment conscience, Power, etc)
What Is a Niche Market?
For example, golf is a market, right? Products are marketed to golfers all the time...and it is VERY big and very profitable market.
People LOVE their passions and hobbies, that's for sure.
But the thing is, you can't effectively try to make one web page, or one little website, that appeals to ALL golfers. To me, that is going back to what my grandmother used to always tell me -
When you try to please EVERYONE you end up pleasing NO ONE!
So, what we need is a niche market within the golf market.
How To Find a Niche Market
Now, I am just thinking out loud here, so bear with me...
Let's see....
left-handed golfers...that's a niche.
golf gloves for left-handed golfers.... good... getting more specific and I love it
golf gloves for left-handed women golfers..... nice!
Think about all the golf "stuff" available - then think of WHO in the golf market might want/need that stuff.
There are:
golf gloves
golf clubs
golf drivers
golf irons
golf balls
golf putters
golf lessons
golf tees
golf gifts
golf training aids
golf courses
golf shirts
golf jackets
golf hats
golf shoes
golf socks
golf tips
and on and on and on and on....
As for the WHO:
men golfers
women golfers
junior golfers
senior golfers
senior women golfers
beginner golfers
scratch golfers
bogey golfers
junior boy golfers
junior girl golfers
pro golfers
women pro golfers
scratch senior golfers
beginner women senior golfers
business golfers
tournament golfers
and on and on and on and on...
But are you getting the picture?
Match up the "WHO" with the "WHAT" and talk exclusively to that group of people.
The Perfect Niche Market
Yup, right back to good ol' supply and demand =)
Finding a niche market is not difficult - the only tool that is absolutely necessary is your brain.
Make a list of things you like to do... then, make a list of all the types of people who also like to do what you do. See what is available online for these folks. See if you can make it better.
