How to Fix Your PS3 at Home
If you are PS3 owner, you know that there is nothing more frustrating than having a game suddenly freeze during the middle of playing, or seeing blinking red or yellow error lights on the console. Sending the PS3 out for repairs can cost well over $100, but fortunately many of these problems can be fixed at home using one of the popular PS3 repair manuals available online - and saving you considerable time and money!
How to Fix Common Problems with a PS3
Blinking Yellow Light
There is a wide variety of hardware problems that can cause a blinking yellow light on the PS3. Often this is the result of poorly attached cables or overheating. If you have a blinking yellow light, make sure all connections are secure first, and try turning the unit on and off again, and waiting for it to cool down a bit if it seems hot.
Blinking Red Light
A blinking red light on a PS3 can be the result of the hard drive overheating, or signal that the hard is broken, or that it needs to be reset. You can easily reset your hard drive at home by reinstalling the drive (this involves removing and the replacing the hard drive from the unit). You can also address overheating problems by making sure the unit is well ventilated.
Freezing
The fix for freezing depends on whether the PS3 is freezing on start up or in the middle of the game. If it is a problem with start up, this may mean that dust is a problem and that the unit needs to be cleaned (including the laser components inside). If it freezes during a game, it is likely a problem with overheating.
