How to Grow Seedless Grapes

I suppose the answer to that question's obvious- we wouldn't be able to eat seedless grapes if they couldn't be grown! But what a lot of viticulturists wonder is exactly where grapes without seeds hail from, more so than how to grow seedless grapes. The common theory is that seedless grapes are brought forth from a mutation in grape genes that happened thousands of years ago in what would be today's Afghanistan.

The Apulia seedless grapes, pictured to the right, was studied by Italians for a while to learn more about the mutation that caused seedless grapes, but nothing's been found out so far.

So how do you reproduce seedless grapes if they have no seeds? The answer to how to grow seedless grapes is much the same as how to grow grapes: the vines. Instead of using grape seeds, you can easily cut grapevines into pieces and use a healthy sized piece to plant elsewhere.

To start with growing grapes of any type, you must make sure you have a grasp of where you are and the best types of grapes to grow in that climate. But if you already have a good idea of what types of seedless grapes you can grow effectively, then it's simple from there:

1. Obtain the seedless grapes. If you're just now learning how to grow seedless grapes then it'd be a good idea to get a few extra clippings from other grape growers in your area.

2. Place the vine clippings or roots in cool soil. Make sure you have the soil amended so that it's fast draining, loose, and loamy. The deeper the soil you amend is, the better.

3. Place your makeshift "seed" in the soil and attend to it.
