Do You Need to Learn How to Hook a Bowling Ball?

Oh, you didn't know that there's more to bowling than just hooking the ball? Sorry - I didn't mean to burst your bubble!

Seriously though, there is more to bowling than just a hook. Say you learn how to hook a bowling ball, but you can't control it. Maybe it is such a strong hook that it goes right to left (or left to right if you're left-handed) and ends up in the gutter before it even gets to the head pin. Your hook isn't going to work like that.

Maybe you have some hook and you see the ball starting to bite and it heads straight for the pocket. About 2' before the pocket, your ball straightens out as if you wanted to through it straight. These things can drive a bowler nuts! Trust me, I know.

These are just two examples of problems you can still have after you learn how to hook a bowling ball. But don't get upset - we are going to try and help you along here.

Your positioning when you are in your stance is important. Ever see those little arrows on the lanes?? Believe it not, those actually mean something and they are critical to learning how to hook a bowling ball!

To start, position yourself and make a note of what arrow you are standing on. Go through your windup and release. How did that work? Keep a note of how well you did from that particular arrow. Do this is handful of times for each position.

Rinse and repeat.

What we're trying to establish is how you bowling stride and release relate to where you are standing in the lane. By doing this, you should get a better idea as to where you should stand to optimize your bowling DNA!

I myself am a fairly accomplished bowler. I have a couple of perfect game rings and have some titles as well. What you really need to remember though that are only going to be good as you want to be. This means studying, practicing, practicing, studying, etc.
