How to make a resume

There are several steps involved in making a resume:

- start with your contact information (make sure the e-mail you use sound professional - something like "hotchick85@hotmail won't do it")

- write an objective that isn't about what you want from the job but instead what you will bring to the job
- choose the right resume format: chronological, which will go through your experience and education in chronological order or functional, which will emphasize your strengths and achievements instead. If you're not sure what's the most suited format for your job and industry, get a free one-on-one phone resume consultation with a career and resume expert.

- Don't forget to include at the end, any skills and hobbies that might be related to your job, even if it's indirectly. For example, if you volunteer as a manager for the Red cross, include it in your resume, especially if you're going for a manager/supervisor position.

- If you're not sure how to make a resume or how to improve your resume, don't take any risks and don't spend you money on professional services right away: get first a free resume consultation with a career and resume expert - they can either help you improve your resume or give you tips on how to make it.

How to Make your resume stand out

As you probably know, employers and recruiters usually receive hundreds of resumes for any job they post and if your resume looks like every other resume, chances are you won't even get selected for an interview. The key to get you a foot in the door is indeed to make your resume stand out, which you can do in a few steps:

First, your resume should be written in a pro-active style that showcases all your achievements, rather than just listing job duties and education - if you can convince the employer you got great results, you will get the interview.

In addition, your resume should be written from the employer's point of view: study the announcement and then write your resume emphasizing the skills and abilities they're looking for.

Finally, if you're in a field where results matter or in a technical field, choose a functional format rather than a chronological format, which will make you stand out.

If you're not sure you can write your resume yourself, do not put your job hunt at risk: either get Free help from an expert or get a professional to write your resume (in that case, order online as it's always cheaper and faster).

How to make a cover letter

Even though you might think your resume is the most important part of your job application, you shouldn't undermine the impact of your cover letter. Indeed, when several resumes are alike, employers often use cover letters to decide who will make the cut. In addition, because cover letters are more personal, they give you the chance to put in plain words ideas that you could not put in your resume.

Your cover letter should follow a specific format: start with your name, contact info, name of the company and the date.

The first paragraph should emphasize your interest in the position. The following two paragraphs should use your experience and education to demonstrate how you meet and exceed what the employer is looking for. The final paragraph should state that you are highly qualified for the job.

While resumes should follow strict guidelines, cover letters require to be a good and convincing writer. If you don't think you can write a great cover letter, do not hesitate to use tools such as a cover letter creator, which is cheap and will make a difficult task easy.
