HOW TO PLAN A PARTY: ALCOHOLICS AND PAR-TIES
Here are some fresh thoughts for you, about how to plan a party.
Likely everyone has noticed that alcoholism and parties have been often linked. You don't want an alcoholic to ruin your party. You want to be prepared, and learn, from experienced folks, how to handle an alcoholic.
Alcoholism is a genetic condition. One does not "become" an alcoholic. A person is either alcoholic at birth, or is never an alcoholic.
Here is one way to know who is, and who is not, an alcoholic:
A regular person drinks one or two, then does not want to drink any more after that.
An alcoholic drinks one or two just to get started. They drink to get "high" or to get drunken.
Regular people do not aim to become drunken.
An alcoholic may begin, with the aim, of havin only 1 or 2, then, afterward, lose control, and drink, until they have become drunken.
The only successful cure for alcoholism is to have a spiritual awakenin. The only successful treatment for alcoholism has been the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Alcoholics Anonymous groups have lost their focus on the original program, and their effectiveness has dropped from 80% recovery rate to 20% recovery rate.
An alcoholic will either quit drinkin forever, be killed as a result of drinkin, or be lock-ed up for the rest of their life. They will never be able to become a moderate drinker. Either they will have a spiritual awakenin, or else their drinkin will increase with age, until they die, or become locked up.
IDEAS FOR PARTIES: HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOUR ROLE AS A HOST OR HOSTESS?
As I sought for ideas for parties, I found a question on Yahoo Answers website. It was from a youn man who had gone to a party, he styled himself "Texas Longhorn". His question was "what did I do wrong?"
In his narrative, he said that he had taken 4 shots before the party, and it is to be supposed that he drank more after he got to the party. His dilemma was that, as he was drunken, the girls were repelled from him.
Now, from the above information, he had more than 2 drinks, therefore he is most likely an alcoholic at birth, a born alcoholic. Remember, alcoholics are born that way.
As a host or hostess, thinkin about your dinner party ideas, you could do research beforehand, to know whether someone on your prospective guest list has a drinkin problem. If they do have a problem with drunkenness, then, accordin to decades of past experience, they will only respond to other alcoholics, if they are approached about their problem.
DINNER PARTY IDEAS: IF YOU ARE NOT AN ALCOHOLIC YOURSELF
If you consistently stop drinkin after 1 or 2, and you want to know how to handle alcoholics then there is an organization to help you.
Suppose you know a problem drinker, and you would like them to be a guest at your party, but there is too much risk. Or if you want to be prepared just in case a guest turns out to be more of a drinker than you thought they would be, when you invited them.
Alanon is an organization to teach you how to handle both those situations. Here is the url: http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/
IF YOU ARE AN ALCOHOLIC
Find an AA group that does not function like a group therapy session, in other words, only the old-timers talk. They don't talk about their problems, only about the steps of recovery.
And, when they talk about a "higher power" they make it clear that they mean God. The Big Book says that God is the higher power, not anythin else.
Go to meetins as often as you can. Follow their advice. Otherwise the alcohol is either goin to kill you or get you locked up for good. So go to the meetins and you'll be all right, if you pick the right group, and do what they say.
The folks, that you meet at AA meetins, will teach you how to handle the alcoholic whom you would like to be able to invite (if only you could), and also the one you invited, who drank too much.
