Discovering RSS
I have heard the jargon: RSS, RSS news, RSS feeds, news feeds, mentioned for some time now, however for whatever reason I have always chosen to hide from investigating further.
After finally taking the time to look into what all the fuss was about, I was amazed at just how quick and easy it was to use.
Honestly, you will be surprised how really easy it is to use and how useful it is!
It adds some great up-to-date news and content for your readers to read!
And it gives your readers an extra reason to come back!

Why Do I Want An RSS News Feed?
- Once added you do not have to do anything more.
- Once added, an RSS feed displays up-to-date news headlines and articles on your web page regularly, this can be on a daily basis or on an occasional basis (it depends on the rss feed you choose to use).
How do I Add an RSS feed to my Squidoo page?
Squidoo seem to be regularly changing their layout and the text, so please be aware the instructions may not be 100% accurate but they should be very close, I try to keep it up to date.
- Edit the lens / Edit this page (login and then go to your lens/page and click edit / edit this page).
Either:
- There is an 'Add Modules' shortcut on the right hand side: if you use the 'Add Modules' shortcut on the right hand side - click 'popular', then click the '+' symbol next to 'RSS: Add your blog', then click the 'add' button.
Or:
- Click the 'add modules' button (squidoo keep changing the position of this button), at the time of writing this, it is located at the very top of your squidoo 'my workshop'.
- Click the 'Add Unique Content' tab.
- Find the module named 'RSS: Add Your Own Blog' (click the 'next' button if it is not on the current page). It may also be named 'RSS: Add Your Own Feed'.
- Once found, click the 'add' link located next to the module named 'RSS: Add Your Blog' (repeat clicking the add link if you require more than one rss feed).
- Click the 'Save' button
(squidoo keep changing how/where to do the above part, this was correct at the time of writing this, please add a comment at the bottom if this no longer works for you).
You should now have a rss feed module on your 'Edit Lens' mode page titled 'RSS: Add Your Blog: New RSS: Add Your Blog'.
- Click 'EDIT' on the module titled: 'RSS: Add Your Blog: New RSS: Add Your Blog'
- Give your module a title and subtitle.
- In the box titled 'What URL would you like to pull RSS from?' you need to place the link of the rss feed you would like to use (see section below: 'how do I find and identify an rss link' for more information about this).
- In the box titled 'How many headlines would you like to show?' enter a number - this number represents how many news/article headlines will be displayed on your page.
- The 'Would you like to include an excerpt from each link in the feed??' represents whether you would like to display an introduction to each news/article headline.
- The 'How frequently should the module be updated?' represents how often you would you like your page to check if the rss news feed has been updated e.g. check if there is a new news headline or a new article.
How do I find and identify an RSS link?
Examples of which can be seen on the following pages:
Medical RSS News Feed Links
What Car? RSS Feed Links
Once you have found one of these images or an RSS link on your chosen subject, click on it. This should take you to a page that looks similar to the following examples:
Medical RSS News - This is the type of RSS Feed link that you need to copy
What Car? This is the type of RSS Feed link that you need to copy
- Once you have found a page like the examples above on your chosen subject; Copy the link from this type of page (this is the link that you must paste into the squidoo box titled 'What URL would you like to pull RSS from?').
WHERE CAN I FIND AN RSS LINK ON MY SUBJECT?
- There are now rss directories springing up that you can search for rss feeds on your chosen subject:
An RSS Directory
- You can search for rss on your subject in the search engines such as Google.
- You can search for rss on your subject in squidoo e.g. searching for 'medical rss news' in squidoo will bring up the following page of rss feeds:
Useful Medical and Health RSS News Feeds

- Hi, I don't believe there is a way of adding a background colour behind the RSS feed. There is certainly not an option on the Squidoo RSS module to do this. It is a great idea though, it would also be a great idea to have the option on some of the other modules so that we have a bit more control over the appearance of our pages.

- Thanks for the lens. Have I asked you this question? I can't find an answer: is it possible to use a background-color behind the rss feed? Thanks for any help! Best of luck!

- I don't think Squidoo has a module for making an RSS feed from your Squidoo lens at the moment.
If you are just asking generally for normal html pages (non Squidoo pages), then there are number of tutorials on the net to help with this.
e.g.

Hope this helps
