How to Sing Good And Amaze Your Audience

Many people who would like to learn how to sing better have never considered the fact that singing is just an extension of speech. When you sing you are communicating a message. If you are a songwriter and you are singing a song that you wrote personally, than I'm sure that you are very familiar with the message you are trying to get across.

However, I'm sure you'll agree that it is much more likely that you are singing a song that was written by someone else, and in that case, if you want to communicate the message intended by the song writer, you'll want to at least relate to it.

Good singers can make you feel as though the message in the song is coming straight from their heart! For example, if the lyrics are about losing a loved one, you should be able to feel the sadness through empathy!

How To Sing Good - Think About the Words

Communicate The Emotion

If you want to know how to sing good keep this in mind with every song you sing. Put yourself in the shoes (so to speak) of the person who wrote the song. Think of the words that you are singing and for all intents and purposes "feel" them.

Just as you can have an emotional conversation, there should be emotion communicated in the songs you sing. If you were having an emotional conversation, would your voice change?

You bet it would and that change would help the other party to perceive your emotion. The same thing applies when you are singing.

How To Sing Good - Sing Your Heart Out

Take Your Singer Vows

Of course, good posture, proper breathing, regular practice, expanding your range, etcetera, etcetera are all things that will help you as you learn how to sing good, but when you're finished with this lens I want you to take this little piece of advice with you, to have and to hold from this day forward and never forget it as long as we both shall sing. :-)

It is very powerful and if you can master it, you will be well on your way to learning how to sing good. Get into the emotion of the message. That's what people mean when they say "he sang his heart out" or "she sang her heart out"! We use the term "heart" to mean our emotions.

How To Sing Good - Music is Emotion

The Dynamics Are So Important

Music is all about emotions whether it's instrumental or lyrical. Have you ever seen some of these conductors communicating with their orchestras? Some of them look like wild mad men. lol

They are trying to get the most emotion they can out of the song. That's why the dynamics of the song(s) are so important. In case you don't know what I mean by dynamics, I'm talking about how the song can change drastically, for example, from very soft and mellow to very strong and overwhelming and everything in between.

How To Sing Good - Your Part Is A Little Bigger

Remember These Two Words

As a singer, you are like a pitcher on the mound in a baseball game. Of course all of the other players have their parts to play, just as all the musicians behind you have theirs, but you will dictate the majority of the emotion and success of the performance, just as the pitcher will dictate the flow and success of his teams performance.

Do not take this lightly.
Stand up straight (you'll have good posture and appear more confident).

Instead of thinking about being in front of X number of people, start thinking about the message the songwriter wants you to convey and it won't be long before you'll start hearing a few compliments, such as "hey, you sing pretty good".

Don't make the mistake I've seen (or heard) others make, by explaining why you could have done better. By doing so you are telling the person that his or her opinion isn't as astute as it could be.

Here is the best response to any compliment, so don't forget these 2 words.

Thank you.

I will sometimes add "I appreciate it", but that part is NOT quite as important.
