How To Solar Power Your Life For Free
So you've looked in to how to solar power your house, but you just don't have the budget for those fancy panels yet. No problem! There are plenty of ways to utilize the sun's energy without breaking the bank. Just think about ways that you can make your home more energy efficient with the use of the light and heat given off by the sun on a daily basis. Here are some simple ideas:
1) Dry your hair by sticking your head out of the car window on the way to work.
We know what you're thinking, and it's probably along the lines of "are you kidding?" But you'd know that we aren't kidding if you'd take a look at your electricity bills once you spend day after day blow drying your poor hair. Tomorrow morning (or make it a Saturday, if you want), roll down your windows and let the combination of heat and wind power dry out your tresses. You'll be doing a good thing for the environment and your damaged follicles!
2) Hang wet laundry out on the clothesline to dry.
There's a reason everyone did it in the 1950's: it's clean, efficient, and easy. Instead of generating tons of fake heat with the use of an electric dryer, just put your clothes outside into the abundant heat of the sun! If you don't want to put your whole load out there for the neighbors to see, just putting a few items out there can help reduce your energy output. Your air conditioner will also get a break from not having to cool off the house after the dryer runs 15 times.
3) Open the blinds during the day instead of turning on the lights.
We live in very private times. This country has become so urban and crime-ridden that people are afraid to even leave their curtains open, for fear of a burglar or peeping Tom. However, if you actually take a second to think about it, how many people can really see in your windows? Is it really that big of a deal if your neighbors see you vegging out on the sofa? Utilizing the sun's natural daylight can greatly reduce your electrical bills, so turn off those lights and let the sun come in!
Is that enough information so you know how to solar power your life? I hope so. There will be more coming soon!
