Step 2 -- Structuring the Business

You will need to structure your medical marijuana business properly. In California you will have to structure the medical marijuana dispensary as a non-profit corporation; however, in Colorado you don't have to structure the business as a non-profit. In both states you will have to follow the letter of the law, and you will be dealing with local, state and federal governments. Step 3 -- Finding a Location and Setting Up Shop

After you have gotten all of the necessary business documents you'll need to find a location and negotiate a lease. In some cases you will need to find a location before you can get a seller's permit. There are some addendums you should include in your lease so that you can protect yourself and your business.

Security will need to be a major part of your planning, especially your floor plan. You will need to do planning for budgeting, inventory advertising and equipment, to name a few things.
