Do Yu Have Problems Overcoming Procrastination?

How To Stop Being Lazy

From the lens How To Stop Being Lazy - Overcoming Procrastination.

Stop Making Excuses and Start Living With Energy

  • CHalloran Jun 1, 2012 @ 1:42 pm | delete
Perfectionism or laziness could be two of the reasons why we are procrastinating but actually I believe the real causes is much deeper than that. I have recently read a book by Steven Pressfield, "The Art of War" and really loved his approach. He is talking about "resistance" in us being the real trigger of procrastination, cause of many addiction problems, anxiety, panic attacks etc. I am a chronic procrastinator. I can't say I am lazy in general, but I do suffer from some sort of ADHD. It is very easy for me to get sidetracked and lose concentration.
  • ocdformulas May 21, 2012 @ 10:36 am | delete
Thanks for the valuable information! Procrastination can be also associated with perfectionism. Some people engage to certain task and focus their attention to unimportant details instead of giving attention to the main objectives to accomplish their task.

Procrastination is one the biggest problems I have. I think the best thing to do is get going fast and not relax or put off tasks for later. Do it immediately before you forget and become complacent.
  • handyone Feb 7, 2012 @ 5:19 pm | delete
Go for it and don't stop. Success is always closer that you think. Believe!
  • Ladymermaid Feb 5, 2012 @ 3:58 pm | delete
Aww and I was having so much fun being lazy. Now I won't have any excuses to just lounge around in my jammies all day...how truly awful ;)
  • bloomingrose Feb 5, 2012 @ 12:08 pm | delete
I believe that having just a little plan for the next day helps so much. Also habits that you think would not be related to procrastination make a huge difference: i.e the more that I practice good habits like putting my keys down in one place so that I can easily find them, the less time I waste and the more energy I have to do what I want to do or need to do.

  • Ruthi Jan 17, 2012 @ 5:07 pm | delete
Time management is my biggest issue and I plan to do something about it! Dreading the task at hand, for me, generally means it may be something I shouldn't do anyway, ever. I've learned that when I dread a task to the point of procrastination that it is usually not something I really want to be doing. Weeding these things out of my time just might help with time management and procrastination issues. You have my blessings and a bit o' sunshine!

I have been a terrible procrastinator in the past and still suffer with bouts. Getting the mind organised is definitely a key part - for me it's about bringing my left-brain (routine and organisation) into balance with my dominant right-brain creativity, so I can actually get done what I visualise. :) Very informative and interesting read!

Great Page!

I totally agree that some people are paralysed by anger, but also often fear of the unknown and even the fear of success. The fear of success can of course be a fear of a change in schedule (working more, not having excuses).

I also feel very satisfied when I have efficiently spent my day. Often I look forward to the morning to starting a new productive day!

A book I would recommend is Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.

    Thanks for a great lens!

  • BuddyBink Nov 4, 2011 @ 7:27 pm | delete
Beating laziness by getting up and doing something productive is definitely the best thing to do. It allows you to accomplish something, it get your mind active, it gets your body active, it allows you to feel good about yourself and it helps keeps you younger or at least it feels that way. Excellent lens.
  • grannysage Nov 2, 2011 @ 9:00 pm | delete
I used to have two lives. My work life where I was anything but lazy. I was a listmaker and loved crossing things off my list. Then there was my at home life. I have never been able to reconcile coming home from work and then cooking and cleaning and all of those things that need to be done. So I can be accused of being lazy and reading a book instead of doing dishes. But then I thought, what will I remember when I am old, washing dishes or discovering new things? However the listmaker eventually imploded. Now that I no longer work the daily grind, I have removed the L word from my vocabulary. I simply do what I feel called to do at the moment. Right now it is talking to you, later on I might play a game. Who knows?
  • cffutah Oct 25, 2011 @ 6:36 pm | delete
great topic, my four kids and great wife don't let me be lazy.
  • BarbRad Oct 23, 2011 @ 4:34 pm | delete
Sometimes there is just plain too much to do. Take a writing deadline, for example. Just as I'm set to spend spare time sorting stuff in the house to dispose of, HubPages announces a writing contest I want to enter and that has a deadline. So, the sorting waits while I write. Some household tasks like cooking and laundry have to be done to survive, so I do them. Some things seem better able to wait until I have the time. It's hard to sort a bunch of stuff in 15-minute time slots per day. Now I'm trying to tackle doing at least one small thing toward the goal when I have the chance. I'm not really lazy -- but I do tend to get priority to the jobs I most enjoy and put off the ones I hate until I have to do them.
  • aesta1 Oct 23, 2011 @ 8:54 am | delete
With age, I have finally tamed my procrastination. I used to be a procrastinator but now I finish work first before I reward myself with play. The to do list helps me but more because I forget.

One weird trick I learned to combat laziness is to thank my past self for finishing something earlier so that I don't have to worry about it anymore. It's a way to call attention to the fact that it feels good to have something out of the way.

I am one of the worlds worst procrastinators Paul, and even now I am opening tabs in my browser with more lenses to read, rather than reading and then closing the 20+ I already have open. I put off doing one thing to do another, and easily allow myself to become distracted. I'm working on it, and you have some great tips here, blessed.
  • TheHappinessManual Sep 13, 2011 @ 5:35 am | delete
I love articles on productivity. I noticed you have the same "Lazy picture" as my lens. Procrastination is just one of those things where it's easy to get into a devastating cycle. It's not good for anyone. But I think laziness is different, that's more when you are determined not to get things done or can't be bothered. Procrastination is where you know what you must do and for some reason, you just don't.

I'm not certain that procrastination is always due to laziness, though it often is. Can it not also be due to fear, uncertainty, missing information needed to get a task done etc.? A great lens nonetheless.

Hah, I can be very lazy, especially when something is becoming repeative, doing something for so long. I start with lots of energy and enjoying to do it and working loads of hours on it, but then in the end I sometimes become lazy, this article will certainly be of use for me haha :D

I know I'm a procrastinator. I admire people who get things done on the spot while I'm writing the list of things to do, they are already doing them! Once I get going on a project I do pretty good, but I can also find alot of reasons to postpone the commencing!

I saw you in the chatterbox, and wondered...what do those 600 lenses look like? How is this done? So I came over and found this one. And now I see that not only are you very energetic and focused...your work is sharply thought out. I tend to drift in and on in my lenses in an unplanned and exploratory fashion that takes ages and ages... ah ha...so that is why I only have 17 lenses. I live and hopefully learn.

My husband totally agreed with me when I admitted to him that I only want to do what I don't have to do. If I should write a Birthday card. I don't. Just yesterday I sent out three late Birthday cards! I should be crafting because I have four shows to do by Oct.2nd.
I keep coming back to Squidoo, but am I writing any lenses? No. Will anything help me?
