Ground Rules for your Anti-Valentine's Day Party

If you're going to have a fun time that doesn't turn into a "I'm single pity party" then you need to make it clear that it isn't going to be that on your invites. Some of my ideas for rules:

1. No one is allowed to invite their ex or even mention his/her name.
2. You are not allowed to utter the dreaded V-Word the entire night. The dreaded L-Word (love) can be avoided as well.
3. You must not bring any chocolate, wine or champagne to be consumed.
4. Do not wear anything pink or red.

You can make a point system to enforce these rules. Play some games to win points and deduct some points for violations of these rules. Bonus points can be given for most delicious food brought or best party outfit.

For example, use black hearts, cut in 1/2 with a jagged edge. Of use pictures of cupid with his head cut off. Whatever you do, don't use pink or red! You can have vampires or bats attacking cupid. Have some pictures of famous people whose marriages ended in bloody divorce.

Include lots of cola and juice options for mixing, or for those who aren't drinking alcohol. A perfect choice for beer would be a stout, such as Guiness. Anything dark in color, representing a black heart.

Or, how about a Bloody Mary? It's easy to make:

Per one drink:

* 1 1/2 oz Vodka
* 3 oz Tomato Juice
* 1 Dash Lemon Juice
* 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
* 2-3 Drops Tabasco Sauce
* 1 Wedge Lime

Shake everything except lime wedge, in ice. Pour into old-fashioned glass. Add some salt and pepper and a lime wedge.

For food, some basic ideas would be hearts, broken into 2. Let the guests decorate their own cookies or a heart-shaped cake, with a jagged line running down the middle. How about some skewers with chicken on them. Include some spicy peanut dipping sauce. Whatever do you for the main dish, include lots and lots of garlic. Have some black jellybeans on the table.

    Love it! I'm an Anti-Valentine's Day fan and have been for a long time - even when I had boyfriends and was married. It's an excuse for people to be nice and sweet and say I love you one day a year and that's just wrong. lol I have a line of Anti-Valentine things at my store even and Muriel, the anti-cupid runs it. ;)
