Tips for How to Tie Fishing Knots
Over the years I have spent countless hours on the water fishing. While I was still learning in the early years a few things slipped through the cracks. I learn how to take a fish off the hook. I learned how to clean fish, how to pick the right bait, but one thing I didn't learn at first was how to tie a fishing knot. Yeah sure I was tying the old overhand knot over and over again, but that didn't seem to work correctly for every situation. For those of you new to fishing this is one aspect of you trip that is a must learn. I will help you, with some basic tips on how to tie a fishing knots and then we will get into the specifics.
OHH MAN! What happened?
I just lost my biggest fish ever!
It's an early spring morning as you launch your boat into your favorite fishing spot. The fish are splashing the top of the water grabbing at anything that presents itself as a well balanced meal for a fish. You tie on your favorite $5 buzz bait and give your rod tip a quick under hand flip toward that open spot just short of the weed bed. You tighten the line and start the blade churning in the water. As you slowly reel the lure towards your boat it tightens and disappears into the depths. As the slack is drawn from the rod you crank down and pull the rod back over your shoulder, setting the hook. THE FIGHT IS ON! You feel the monster bass turning and twisting feverishly in the murky water, when it suddenly breaks the water. The acrobatics of a 9lb bass is overwhelming to you as you watch it splash back down with a thunderous SPLOOSH. You pull the rod tip back up again trying to catch back up to the monster when you feel nothing pulling back. There is no tension on the line. "OHH MAN! What happened? I just lost my biggest fish ever."A sick feeling comes over you. You know the one in the bottom of your stomach that just makes you want to, well you get the picture. As you reel in what is left of the line you find, a short, twisted, curly, section at the end of your line.
