Why Should I Use a Slow Cooker?

I don't know about you, but I love food that has been cooking all day in a Slow Cooker. The meat is just so much more tender than if you just cooked it in the oven or on the grill. We kind of rediscovered the clow cooker a couple of months ago and have been cooking BBQ pulled pork, Chilli, roast and all kinds of soups in it. When I have off all day, it makes a great way to have dinner ready when the whole family gets home. No one has to wait for dinner to be ready. Ususally ii is already ready.

How to Pick a Good Slow Cooker

There is not a whole lot to a slow cooker. Make sure the base is solid and has a thick cord. It will be converting electricity to heat to cook your food. Make sure the bowl is thick and heavy. Most of them are made out of porcelain. I have seen some made out of steel, but I like the porcelain bowls better. They will not rust and you will not get flakes of metal in your food.

The Slow Cooker should have a low, a High and a Keep warm setting. It should also have a timer on it, so you can set it and forget about it. This is extremely useful when you set something up to cook while you are at work. You can have it cook for 6-9 hours and shut off or switch to a keep warm mode till you get home and eat it.
